Price drop will be on 22 July and will affect mostly the Q6600 that I'm interested in .. It'll reach around 270$ instead of today's 540$

Hi ..

I'm confused in choosing a processor between :

Dual Core E6700 OR Quad Core Q6600

The difference between the two is around 200$ in price .. My question is : Will the difference in performance justify the difference in price ? I'm talking pure gaming here with little of Pinnacle DVD making.

Regarding Motherboard, my requirements are :

SLI with 16x speed on both slots, place for sound card and physics card, Firewire and minimum 8 USB total.

My choice now is Asus P5N32E-SLI based on 680i chipset .. Is it the best choice or there better choices out there ?? Note that I'm not into overclocking ..

Direct X 10 on Laptops is JUST released by nVidia and I didn't see it commercially available yet ..

I would suggest to wait few more weeks until they start appearing .. this will be more future proof .. but if u r really in hurry go for DX9 laptop ..

I got Dell XPS 1210 around 2 months back .. it's nice .. if u want bigger you can go to 17" version XPS 1710

Of course it's too early to call it old .. i was just messing around ..

Enjoy your dual core rigs guys .. and let me stop dreaming of quad and octa cores and go back to my single core athlonxp 2600+

Since when is dual core old fashioned? :?X360PS3AMD05

I'm talking about future upgrade .. In future, Dual Core IS old fashioned. the future is for Quad Core and whatever else comes (let's say Octa-Core?)

Here are the specs of my existing Rig:

 - AMD AthlonXP 2600+

- 2GB DDR 400 RAM

- ATI X1600 AGP Version 512MB

- 2 IDE HardDisks 120GB and 250GB

- Audigy4 Sound, 6.1 speakers

Question:

Is it the right time to upgrade to DirectX 10 capable system ? or should I just wait a little until the ATI2900 starts effecting the market and nVidia's next price drop? Should I go for Quad Core like Q6600 processor or just go old fashioned Dual Core ?
