@Xiaor: out of curiosity did you start gaming on xbox? because achievement/game tracking weren't much of a thing before that.

as an exclusively pc gamer it's something that can never bother me. i like that steam tracks my game collection and playtime but no single service can do it completely. the thousands of hours i've poured into MMOs and the achievements i've got in them are basically invisible; everyone can see them but they would actively have to search them out. and that's only for games that can be tracked and haven't shut down.

i've now realized this thread really isn't for someone like me :S

Actually I was a strict PC Gamer all through my teens. Building desktop computers and spending insane amounts of money to have the best bang for buck computers. Then the 360 came out and my friends moved to Xbox Live which was becoming big at that time because Sony had such a terrible service in comparison. So at the start of my twenties over the course of the 360's life I've been Xbox only as I've moved a lot over the years. I believe the Xbox Live train is what got me stuck on game history and having it all tracked in one location.

I recently grabbed a gaming laptop (which I may flip and build a desktop) and the whole idea that my previous gaming profiles are split seems lame.

Good news is I signed up for Raptr years and years ago and somehow attached my PSN, Xbox and Steam account. Totally forgot about it for ages. Checked the other day and all my history is in one place.

Problem solved.

There are places that will track your progress across multiple platforms so you can keep your history in one place, e.g. Ratpr does this pretty well on xbox and pc with also has playstation support.

I don't really have a problem with achievements not being merged across platforms

I forgot I had signed up for Raptr 5-6 years ago. So it's been tracking my PSN, XBOX and Steam games already! I was actually surprised to see how much data it had stored. I just like seeing it all in one spot for history sake. It's interesting.

I'm going to try and lay this out as best I can.

I'm a multi-platform gamer. I enjoy titles across multiple platforms. I have a problem when I want a game which is multi-platform.

At the moment I have a Asus G750 laptop (Steam), Xbox One, Xbox 360 and a Wii U. I will be adding a PlayStation to that in the near future. Typically the debate is between PC and Xbox as they crossover titles the most.

So with that history in mind I always seem to have this problem. This is likely considered a true "first worldproblem'". A game that I have backlogged...for example....Borderlands 2 goes on sale on Steam for 9.99 with all expansions. Now, I have 95% of my history of titles and achievements through Xbox and tracked inside of Gamerscore. I like that. I like being able to see all the previous titles I've completed without having to create lists on a third part site etc. I enjoy having one central location for my game history. It's easy. I got used to this on Xbox because they "did it first and did it well". Playstation has this covered as well.

I realize that Steam has been doing this for awhile. This is where the problem lies. I've invested heavily into Xbox and find it's hard to buy a game on Steam knowing it won't be "tied" to my profile on Xbox. Sounds sad right? But it actually annoys me knowing I have multiple accounts for game history. Now...just so you're all aware...I'm not an achievement hoarder. I don't seek them out. I simply play a game and like knowing it's tracked for future reference. I care not about getting all of them before dropping a game.

I realize that my PC would crush my 360 for visuals and depending on the sale on Steam is cheaper. So logic would say I should buy it on PC. This is when I realize that Microsoft is brillant/evil. As they've created a way in which you feel more invested in a platform due to your game history. At this point all platforms follow suit and now for some dumb reason...I care. I never used to 10 years ago.

Does anyone else ever run into this debate of which platform to buy a game on when you have multiple platform profiles that can track previous game history? Does Xbox, PS or Steam pull you in one direction simply because "you've played more multi-platform titles on that system" and want to keep the history in one spot?

I'm curious is all

I'm like 30% through the story. I basically play AC for simply the single player campaign. They don't spend enough time on multiplayer. Honestly if there was a game world that would have suited open world multiplayer it would have been AC4. But they restrict to sections of the world.....sad.

@jcrame10: I'm sorry, but leave the strategy and business deals to the respective companies. They don't come here to read your posts. This thread is pointless, so do us all a favor and delete it. Thanks.

I used an awesome free cloning software to do mine. But I forgot the name of it. You're welcome.

I'll try to remember to check my PC when I get home. It was super simple. No issues. No re-installing Windows.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time. But I'm playing through Wind Waker for the first time and it's charm is hard to ignore.
