The problem with a loss of backwards compatibility, is that there are a lot of "must have" PS2 games that I have never played. I want to be able to sell my PS2 to make room (and a little cash) for the PS3, but I haven't even beat Final Fantasy X, yet! I'm agree that it seems a bit mad to spend so much money on new hardware to play old games, but I still want to be able to have access to my old games. Actually, that's probably why I've bought games on the Wii VC. I love playing new games, but there are times when I want to go back and play some classics. I think the bigger issue is Sony's way of handling things. "Perfect playback of the entire PS2 catalog" seems to have been something Sony spoke highly of, but now, that's going away. I'll live (especially since I'm not in a hurry to buy a PS3 due to a lack of amazing games so far), but this just doesn't seem like a good way to regain public confidence. Mr. Thomas here pretty plainly said what I've been trying to.
