Hey man if it works for what you need, let's play!!! That's my motto. I beefed up my pc a little bit, but not too crazy, as I too play console games. If I get some more spare cash I might just make my pc able to time travel. We'll see.

[QUOTE="_Area51"]For some games, its like playing a really good book. cryfreedom66

exactly...or a really good movie.

Both good points. However, I personally play different games for different reasons. Yes, some games I play because it feels like playing and interacting with a really good and sometimes very realistic looking book or movie. Other times, its the strategy involved in defeating fake and real life human opponents that hooks you. Other times, its the story and not the graphics in a RPG. Lastly, at times its the consequences of the realistic world revolving around this deep story that can only be overcome with strategic, logical, and precise thinking (and sometimes action) that really takes me to a far away place... if that makes sense.

Just get her Unreal tournament 3.

J/k

Expansion Shivering Isles is a good idea if she hasen't played or heard of it. World of Warcraft is a good MMO but pretty addicting, has a monthly charge, etc. Fall out 3 does have the FPS part of it but its just toooooo good to miss if you've played and like Oblivion's engine.

[QUOTE="aura_enchanted"]yeah but thats not all a gaming rig needs. it needs a decent video card aswell, id look for anything better than ati hd 3650 or an nivida 8200. as memory may make a game play faster, but it doesnt paint the pretty pictures :D.paullywog
i would say 8600 minimum, anything lower will chug on any game in the last 5 years.

Good call. If I had a bigger say in it, yes I'd go for something like an geforce 8800 or 9800 series GPU or an ATI 4800 series f possible IMO.

I was looking into getting into PC gaming and was looking into buying a PC from Dell

How much ram should a gaming rig have ?

Rdiz

As others have stated, get at least 2 or 3 gb worth of ram nowadays. It is also true that ram is not the only thing to look at. A video card better than a geforce 8200 or ati hd 3600 series is a good idea too (check out gpureview.com). Dual core processor is a plus as well. You shouldn't have to worry about power for now if the pc's already built by the manufacturer like dell. DVD player is important because most games are coming out on dvd-roms now. Keep these things in mind, and grats on joining the REAL gaming community :).

Thanks a bunch for the help guys.

I was planning on getting a 4850, but tried to cheapen it up a bit.

Does it matter what brand I get for the card?

MicThe4Tracker

In my experience, brand never mattered TOO much imo. However, BFG has been good to me, as well as EVGA and XFX.

Hello everyone,

I just have a quick question. I downloaded the COD4 Modern Warefare demo and was playing it on my pc for 5 minutes or so until the screen froze and I had to restart. Is my computer unable to play this game? I am also playing from my hard driv-no cd.

My specs:

21" Acer Flat Panel

Antec 900

Quad-Core 2.4ghz

3 gigs of 6400 OCZ Sli-Ready Dual Channel RAm

PNY 9800 gtx 512mb videocard

Artic Freezer CPU Cooler

EVGA 750i motherboard

Thanx

Unreal_Gamer00

Your PC really should be able to play that game with absolutely no problem. I had a 8800 gts a few weeks ago and it did the same thing from time to time so I don't think it's your machine. My card wasn't having any trouble playing it, thats for sure. Anyway here I am...

Amd x2 6000+

4 GB XMS2 Corsair Memory with heatsinks

AtI Radeon HD4870

2x200 GB Sata HDD

600 Watt Power supply

Logitech 5.1 Surround Sound

20 inch Samsung Flat Panel LCD Monitor

DVD Burner, lots of fans, etc.

100 - 200 dollars? a 9800gt or gtx would fit that. I just got a radeon 4870 and it's incredible for 189.99 (after rebate). If you can find a deal like that, it is sooooooo worth it. I'm talking "fallout 3 and call of duty 5 on every single setting all the way up on a widescreen monitor at 1680 x 10something" kinda worth it. If you can ofcourse. cheers and good hunting.

I say everything is fine except for the vid card like everyone else. That might be the only thing stopping you from running the game on higher settings. You could probably take down the resolution and texture, etc. if you don't care much for graphics. But if you want the game to look great, gotta ditch that video card imo.

Looks good to me man. I don't think the power supply is overkill. I say keep it incase you expand things later; more headroom. As far as the video card, you could get something better for around the same price. But then again, you can ALWAYS do that. if you can, I say a geforce 9800 series gpu, radeon 4850 or 4870(mine and its unbelievable). Everything else looks cool.
