I'm an idiot, and I don't know hardly anything about TV's. So... could someone tell me if this TV would output 720p, and 1080p?0rin

Nope.  That is a 720p set, so its native resolution is 1280x720.  Other signals get downconverted to 720p

Is a resoloution of 1400 X 900 considered to be 720P? Cause I have my eye on the Samsung LE19R71BX. Is this screen good enough for PS3?Neontope

Unless PS3 can take advantage of that custom resolution, then it would consider it as a 720p.

Please stop feeding misinformation to people!! Analog component cables do NOT offer "significantly less quality" signal. There is no proof of superiority in this regard, just preference. I welcome you all to read this article and do your own tests before you go and make sweeping claims: http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/34579/122868.htmlhistory2b

Exactly.  DVI, HDMI and analog component are ALL capable of 1080p.  The vendors' preference is HDMI not because of quality but copy-restriction issues.

HDTV master Ryeferd:P Can you tell me if this tv is good for gaming? There's also a 23 inch one I could post if this one isn't so good. Thank you master.Ryeferd

wow, am I the master now? If you look several pages back in this thread, I was asking questions just like this :P but I guess I am answering most of the questions now.

anyway, that TV has an interesting resolution (1440x900). I guess that makes it 720p, which is good on a TV that size.

the price is pretty good for an HD LCD, but you could find a 30" HD CRT with a better contrast ratio for that same price, maybe cheaper.

That set could easily double as a computer monitor, but I think your money would be better spent on a set with a better contrast ratio.

Good job in learning all the info

The more people answering questions right, the better.  HDTV is a confusing subject for the majority, since there are so many options available and the specifications and technologies are many.  Glad to see the thread hasn't been abandoned :D

So I can play my PS3 on my computer screen???Firefox150

You can count on 3d parties making a VGA cable if Sony doesn't release one.

My family bought the DLP TV 60". 1080i and 720p. Is it okay to play ps3 with it? i dun really wanna screw up the TV by playing my games. Plz i need some comments about the TVtokage2006

That's a nice size to play games :D  Congratulations!  You won't screw up your TV by playing games.  If the set is DLP, one of the advantages is that DLP (just like LCD) is burn-proof.  You can pause an image and leave it there and won't damage it (unlike plasma and CRT) so no worries :)

Just bought an awesome 1080p widescreen.   42" Westinghouse LVM-42w2.  Look it up.  For 1080p, Westinhouse's line of lcd's can't be beat for overall value.  Got mine for 1700.00.  It is a monitor, but has a wealth of inputs.  Blu-Ray is going to look sweet on this thing.    savior14

Yup.  Congrats on the new set :D  That is the cheapest decent quality set you are going to find for 1080p.  No tuner, but who cares.  Most people get HD with cable or satellite anyways :D  Enjoy.

[QUOTE="am_f1"]Thanx alot for your information about HDTVs , but can you tell me something  if you want the best of PS3 , what is the best brand of LCD tvs & model will it be lets say 32" ??? Ryeferd

I would say sony, and samsung are your best bets for LCD. I here the sharp aquos line is very good as well.

I have a 27" samsung LCD, and I love it. if you are looking for somthing a little bigger, here is the 32" version of my TV http://www.samsung.com/Products/TV/LCDTV/LNS3251DXXAA.asp?page=Specifications

Samsung is your best bet.  They are making Sony's LCDs now, so there is no point on paying a premium on the Sony brand.  Samsungs are just as good and cost less.

A question i have that i can't find an answer for anywhere - does it matter what the response time (Gray to Gray) is on an LCD TV, will the PS3 run fine on a 12ms response time, i have heard it will only run on an 8ms response time!? The LCD I'm looking at has a TV Resolution of 1920 x 1080 (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i), only thing stopping me from buying it is not knowing whether or not the PS3 will run on it!?
mattyrule1

It will run fine on 12 mS, but if you can find better go for it.  The lower the response time, the faster the crystals in the LCD "switch".  8 mS is better obviously, but PS3 will run on anything, even an "old" LCD with a 25 mS response time (it will just look like crap with lots of smears and ghosts).  As a rule, don't buy anything above 15 mS.

[QUOTE="GoldenS1104"]

I have this cable for my PS2: http://www.estarland.com/Playstation2.cat.AC.product.16895.html

I have three questions:

A) Will this work with my PS3?

B) Will it allow me to view games in 1080p?

C) What resolution will it allow me to view DVD's and Blu-ray movies at?

patcub

A) I would guess the PS3 is shipped with component cables, which is what your cable is.

B) No, there is not a TV out there capable of recieving 1080p signals through component.  The only way to get a 1080p signal is to use HDMI.

C) Well, it really depends on your TV and what it is capable of accepting over its inputs.  If your TV can accept 1080i or 720p signals over component, that would be your max.  However, since those cables were designed for the PS2, they are probably not of high enough quality to carry those resolutions, so I would guess the max they can carry is 480p.

Also, just to let you know, there is no difference in what resolutions you can get from a dvd or a game.  They are both just signals coming into the display, so your TV or cables don't treat them any differently.

Not true.  There are sets that take 1080p on component, but they are few and on the expensive side.  Also, there is the problem that basically there is no content available since the studios are paranoid about not delivering movies over component at that resolution, and we have yet to see if PS3 will deliver 1080p over component.
