@kstaggs87: They killed ThinkGeek. That was the real loss. I called it the moment I read the news of the acquisition.

Bit of a bait and switch, start the article about the movies, and switch into comics abruptly. I mean, it’s obvious pretty quickly, but why mention the movies at all if it isn’t relevant to the story?

@pcps4xb: Technically, even with physical you only own the same license and a piece of plastic. Though it’s of course much harder to take that away.

Your use case is the only reason I don’t give people a hard time about buying physical. Personally, I don’t mind the purchase being permanent because I never know when I’ll want to return to a game. But that’s me. There are plenty of people that do like you do and use it as a kind of long-term rental system. It’s probably still cheaper than GameFly.

@bdrtfm: I didn’t say it was proof. Proof would be Microsoft’s desire to go all digital, GameStop’s dying business model, and most devices don’t include optical drives.

Speaking of proof, your troubles with digital is not proof that it isn’t ready. Just like my complete lack of problems across iTunes, Amazon, Nintendo, Microsoft, and Steam is not proof of the contrary. But I can tell you I’ve had more problems with physical than digital.

@bdrtfm: Sure. You're talking 10TB optical drives that aren't even available yet, while 3.3TB optical drives are only $7,000.

I haven't bought a physical game or movie in years and I love it. That's where the market is going.

@bdrtfm: Epic store is only good for publishers. Steamworks has tons more features. Steam has more features and a larger audience. Steam is good for developers and users. Epic is good for publishers because they share some of that sweet Fortnite money.

No, review bombing won't help. Not purchasing won't help either. The only way to stop this is to stop Fortnite. Cut off their revenue stream so they can't park truckloads of money in front of the publisher. Force them to compete on merit instead.

Easier said than done to kill Fortnite though.

The fact of the matter is they're fucking up PC gaming. There could be dire consequences in the future as the reduced sales make the bean counters hesitate to launch on PC at all.

@joey2010: This isn't competition. This is trying to force popularity of an inferior service. If Epic were competing on the merit of their service, I wouldn't complain. Offer a better service than Steam, and users will follow. Instead, they're saying "we know our service sucks, so we've paid off publishers so you have to use our service anyway."

Competition is good. We got a better refund policy in Steam partially because of Origin's policy. This isn't competition. The only thing Steam and Origin can learn from Epic right now is equally toxic behavior.
