It comes down to this, Microsoft's Xbox brand has lost 5 billion dollars since its birth. Microsoft paid off the debt thanks to their other profitable divisions and previous losses they had do not effect current situations but the fact still remains that MS lost $5 billion thanks to the Xbox. The Xbox 360 has recently been making a quarterly and even yearly profit and who they owe is no one but their other divisions who have been the Xbox's lifeline over these many years. Everything I just said is a fact, if you want to dispute these facts, have fun! Funny thing is, this is what I said in my original response to the OP.

You are failing to grasp that MS doesnt owe 5 billion dollars.

AdjacentLives

Your failing to grasp that MS had to take that 5 billion dollar loss thanks to the Xbox brand. Your right, they don't owe a debt because they had a bank load of money from their other profitable divisions over the years.

I've read this whole thread and you both are trying to get across two different points while attempting to make them relevant to each other. I feel fairly certain he understands the Xbox cost MS billions, as do I. But that information is not useful in anyway, because overall losses do not make a impact on current quarter profit, and has no effect on MS and the Xbox 360. We all understand the Xbox and Xbox 360 cost MS more money then they've made off of it. But it is still irrelevant to the present situation.

That is exactly my point. I only keep going on because other people don't understand that.

Yeah dude totally lets just use if's and buts that will get our point across. You have no idea what MS would have done if they didnt have the xbox, and could have theoretically lost more money on a different investment. MS because of the xbox has made the most profitable online gaming stragegy in the history of mankind "yeah its that big" Apart from MMO's.Please start up a company, and run it based on the short tem and see where it gets you. Bankrupt really, really quick.

Am I talking to a wall, did no one hear me? I already said that the Xbox brand will most likely make a profit if it keeps up the current trend. I even said that some things take many many years and others take a short amount of time to make profit. Did you just not read that or what? Right now the Xbox brand is still at a loss of $5 billion. Of course it's a longer term investment, just like the PS3 is.

So did you ever think MS had other motives besides financial gain to intorduce the Xbox brand? :o

MizFitAwesome

I'm sure they did BUT whether they did or not is beside the point, it has nothing to do with what we are discussing here.

I think your avatar says it all. So Sony taking record losses on the PS3, worrying investors is ok by your logic because the brand has been profitable. I sure hope you never own a business...

It's a fact that the Playstation brand is profitable overall. Since the PS3, it has been losing money but Sony hopes to start making a profit on the PS3, they have still made money on the Playstation brand overall.

[QUOTE="ianuilliam"]Yes. Xbox has made 500 million in profit over the last 2 years. if MS had never made the xbox or 360, the company would have had 500 million less in profits from 2008-2009. But they would have had 7 billion more in total profits over the past 7 years. So yeah, I'd say so far, xbox has not been beneficial to MS.

Fizzman

Too bad people fail to see this, it's so obvious.

yup dude xbox is holding MS back cause its making money. Please stop posting. The supposed anchor you are talking about is losses from5+ years agoand you are seriously trying to make the xbox 360 seem like its a bad venture, because of losses generated by the original xbox. Companies do not recordrevenue/losses like you are saying they do.

Fizzman

xbox is making money in the same sense that i make money to pay my credit card bills,

but i make that money though right?

xbox division is pretty much these failing banks that the US government is bailing out, only in this case that government is Microsoft

yeah you got me ohh wait, MS already paid off those supposed credit card bills you are using as an example. MS knowingly planned on losing money on the xbox, and now its paying off.

That means it's starting to show signs of paying off. It hasn't paid off until it's payed off that $5 billion and makes a profit.

What's your point and why should anyone that understands business econmics care?

MizFitAwesome

Why should they care? Let's see.. if Microsoft were to have all divisions have the same success, or lack thereof, Microsoft would not exist today.

So did you ever think MS had other motives besides financial gain to intorduce the Xbox brand? :o
