Exactly. They try to be "original" and make their music "intelligent" but come of as repetitive and boring. How that makes them impressive confuses me.

Uh, sorry had to say one more thing. That's like saying you don't see a world renown masterpiece of music written by Mozart a masterpiece just because you don't like classical music. Or that the Mona Lisa is not a masterpiece because you don't like painters. That just doesn't make sense.

Mozart has created masterpieces because they're known across the world and have had such an impact on music. Generally, Tool has had no musical impact at all, and no band will ever amount to what Mozart or any other classical composer has done.
