@so_hai: Yes, it was the curse of hubris. If you read about the making of the game, it's very clear they were drinking their own Kool-aid after the success of the Witcher 3. Somehow they bought the same idea that brought Bioware down: that their studio just had some kind of "magic" and whatever they touched would turn to gold.
@quinnd6: Even with all it's wonkyness, I LOVED The Last Guardian. It's one of those games that stuck with me long after playing it. Truely a masterpiece and a fantastic capstone to the informal Ico trilogy.
@Mongob4rn I'd say go for it. It's not the same thing as the Souls series, but I loved both of them for a very similar reason... the awesome fights, the great sense of discovery, and the unique asynchronous multiplayer . Perhaps you will find the same enjoyment.
@theblackfrog Since when is 80% okayish? 8 or higher is the mark of an excellent game. 50% is okayish. 90% to 100% is for a game with hardly any flaws that should be played by anybody who enjoys games. I think your scale is a bit skewed.
I LOVE Dragon's Dogma. I have just sunk over 75 hours into it and still want to play more. So far, it is one of my personal favorite games this year, but it is certainly not a game I would recommend to everyone carte blanche. It has a couple very obvious flaws. For one, the fact that you can't issue better commands to your pawns. It's like the Arisen is a mute or something. Second, the graphics, while good, are uneven. Some things look great, but others are covered in muddy, low res textures (like most of the armor for instance). Another problem is the weird split inventory system or the fact that it's so hard to tell if a new unranked weapon is better than your old 3rd rank weapon. There is much that could be improved. 8.0 is a perfect rating for this game.
@theKSMM Very very true. For instance, I haven't bothered replacing my Wii when it broke last year because I knew the Wii U was on the horizon and it offered backwards compatibility. Why spend $150 on a console that will be obsolete within a year?
