I'm curious though, does that mean that you think that games should not be improved after review complaints? Or is it that you think older games, or remakes of these games, should remain consistent so we can remember old design elements (good or bad) and appreciate the way things were back in the day.

If it's the first one, that if id released Doom 4 they shouldn't change the flashlight even though reviewers and fans complained. I would have to disagree, that change can be good and unless there is a good reason to keep the flashlight the way it was (to create atmosphere or something else) than they should be willing to make changes to improve their game.

But if you think that older games should be preserved the way they are with slight tweaks like graphics, than I agree. But I think the original should still be available in some way. Halo Anniversary was the perfect remake in my opinion, except for the fact that they had no old multiplayer engine. If Doom 3: BFG is a true remake, than they should keep the flashlight the way it is. I want to replay Doom 3; not Doom 3.5.

Another great article about the next generation of the console market. Great work Hilary!

I think adding to gameplay for the Wii U's tablet is a must, but I don't think enough developers will care to implement an extra feature that really lends to the Wii U unless Nintendo is willing to send some extra cash to the developer. If the only thing added to the Wii U screen is something I see on my TV or if it is only an inventory screen, Microsoft and Sony will keep seeing my money. But if I can draw up plays like you mentioned if I'm playing a sports game, the Wii U will be a great contendor.

This article must be bad, since Laura is a girl she is obviously still learning. If it was any good, I would see the male journalists getting upset because a girl wrote a good article. That's how dumb sexism is. I can't believe it is still apart of the world. I understand there will always be people who are sexist in small pockets, but it is still such a "mainstream" thing. This was a great article Laura, in case my sarcasm at the top didn't interpret well in writing. This is what journalism sites need more of. Professional pieces of writing. Keep up the great work.

Great article, hopefully some people will realize that scores shouldn't be looked at as the be all end all of video game reviews.

I don't think I ever played a game that didn't have a map. Either that or it didn't need one (Banjo Kazooie, Super Mario 64, among others). However, generally when games have maps I rarely use them anyway if at all, I can generally find my way around.

This was a really good video. I think that you two are completely right. They're fun now, but don't have a future without some sort of innovation.

@lokitama_01 But they need a better introduction to fighting games in general. I'm all for sitting in training mode and trying to find combos, but I don't know where to start. I will look up a combo on Youtube and half the things they're doing I don't know how to do. If someone tries to help me they use vocabulary I've never even heard of. It's not that it's difficult, it's confusing. I have no idea where to start. With the amount of fighters in fighting games now it's hard to even choose a character. It's very confusing for a newcomer and it can't be expected that the newcomer sits through 20+ characters trying to learn how to play one they like. So the solution isn't to necessarily make a better training mode, but possibly a better single player that teaches players everything they need to learn about the game while still accomplishing something. Therefore they can learn the characters and language of fighting games while still feel like they are moving forward and not stuck in training. As for the article. Well written but you should have stated what Skullgirls is doing, like Pangamaster said.

I love articles like this. They really push ideas about what video games can be in the future. This is why I love Gamespot, they have serious articles, compared to some other sites where when you go to them you don't know if it's about video games or comedy. Superb article Stanley, keep up the great work. I'm a Christian, and I thought it was very fair. We don't need games selling a religion to people because then only people who follow that religion will want it. We need games that push religion in separate directions. Great article. Thank you very much for putting up another great piece of content to this site.

I'm very interested in the developer quality of life as someone who wants to be a video game programmer one day. I understand a bit of crunch, but whenever I hear it in the industry I always think about a week, then I see more cases where it's like, "Holy smokes, this was going on for a year?" It's depressing that this happens, but I'm curious how bad it is at a majority of "Triple A" studios. Like does Insomniac games go through this, or how about Naughty Dog? Naughty Dog always seem happy to work in their behind the scenes videos, but I doubt the employees wrote what they would say. The only solution I guess is to make these situations more public, except then it hurts the higher ups of these companies who pay for the games we love.
