@chubby170: 1800-2000nits for 10% window does not translate into 1800-2000nits for full screen, OLED doesn't work that way, it's ABL would kick it down. It should actually translate to a general 1000-1100 overall nits in HDR while gaming, which is what I'm after.

Quick example: I'm playing an action adventure game, let's say Horizon Zero Dawn. I get to a sunny open area, in which the surfaces around me should look bright like they do on a sunny day. But on the LG CX it looks like it's a thin layer of clouds in the sky, because the overall brightness of the panel which should be ~700-800 nits, suddenly gets reduced by the ABL to around 400-500 nits. And that's in HDR, with OLED LIGHT to 100% and Brightness set around 60-70 (or else the colors would begin to wash out). ABL in previous OLED screens is very aggressive, and there's no way to alter it.

Maybe I wouldn't have noticed this if I had a single display in the house. But I also own a Sony 55" TV with an IPS panel, which supports 1000nits in HDR, and has a very loose ABL, like any other non-OLED display.

And it's brightness in HDR games is miles apart when compared to the LG CX in the same scene, especially in bright areas. And no, you don't burn your corneas while watching it, it's actually a very pleasant bright light, that makes the colors pop, does not interfere with the contrast etc, and definitely does not look like a somewhat cloudy day.

That is what I want for my next OLED display, if LG manages to increase/improve the HDR brightness in the G3 series as advertised, it would be the perfect display for my needs.

What I'm really interested in is the LG G3 55, a model that will supposedly receive a hefty brightness level increase, along the lines of 1800-2000 nits for 10% window. And it will overall get much brighter than G2 especially in HDR.

I have an LG CX 48" from 2020, and the single gripe I have with it is the max 700-800 nits of brightness in HDR. The rest of it is perfect, an I use it as a PC monitor for work, movies and games - best overall monitor I ever had.

I'm curious how G3 will fare this year, maybe i'll grab one around the holydays when usually the prices drop considerably as opposed to the months before that.

Yup! Right up until it won't be....

They should be very careful with who they're choosing to play Kratos too, so they don't botch it from the get go. It's very important they match both the physique and the deep, "strong warrior" voice at the same time, or it won't have the effect they're counting on.

There are 2 very important drawbacks:

- only 2 back buttons instead of the usual 4... o_O ;

- abysmal battery life, already confirmed publicly by Sony as being smaller than DualSense's (which is as low as ~4-5h max while playing normally - I have 2 of them right here).

Those points alone make it not worth the asked price.

Should I add the fingerprint magnet glossy plastic on top? (btw, who came up with this s...y idea ?? Not someone that uses a gamepad on a regular basis, obviously... ).

Yeah... even if it was 50$ I wouldn't buy it... but at 210$ ? Oh, hell no!

Go back to the drawing board, Sony! Think next revision through.

Better still, hire a commission of actual professional players to design it !

@naryanrobinson: Like Microsoft's Elite controllers faire any better... it's a complete lottery to get one that works properly, and doesn't gain the vaunted stick drift or unregistering button presses soon after purchase.... The trend to sell expensive crappy-made "elite" controllers is ever rising...

What does the PS5 have to do with Razer controllers? They produce squat in the controller dept for PS5 specifically.

That's a load of crap on Sony's part... If they really can't suffer the losses, then they should increase the prices everywhere. Otherwise they're just bulls..ting people, 'cause all they're doing is getting greedy and profiting as much as they can by the current context to fill their pockets to the brim. For this tactic they definitely deserve all the backlash and losses they receive... even to be sued for discrimination.

Having experienced first hand the "quality" of the materials used by Logitech in it's mice and keyboards, there is only one piece of advice I can share : buyer beware!
