I refuse to explain myself to you mongoloids, my opinion is just that, MINE! I flamed no one, attacked no one, I called Gamespot out on their inconsistency when it comes to explaining the pros/cons of a game and then stamping it with a score that is not consistent with their own words. "8.5 minimum" is just that, I think it should have gotten a 9.0 just based on Gamespot's impression of it.
So to any other haters, flamers, and trolls; get a life, or better yet get your own opinion and back it up rather than tearing down everyone else, that's juvenile and simple-minded.
Wow, it's incredible how inconsistent Gamespot is about their game explanations and their ratings. This guy talked up the expansion like it was an 8.5 at MINIMUM, yet they throw it a petty 8.0? In reality, that's barely above mediocre in the ratings world. *sigh*. Oh well Gamespot, back to IGN I guess.
Sorry, but this should be Zack Snyder's baby. Look what he did with Dawn of the Dead, 300, and Watchmen beautifully. He's a great Director when it comes to an existing license. Just my opinion.
I'm perplexed by Vanord's gushing love of the game (minus a few AI complaints) and a underwhelming 7.5 score. I just think your score should reflect the way you praise the game, to me it sounded like at least an 8, more probably an 8.5. Oh well.
You have no business validating Gamespot's review of this game if you're not even willing to give it a try. You're entitled to an opinion, but you actually have to experience the product first.
4.5 is an insulting and downright shameful score to give this game. I get it that Kevin (along with plenty of other people I'm sure) doesn't like the direction the Resident Evil series took after the remake of RE1 and the prequel RE0. Those were the last 2 games to use the cinematic camera, horrid shooting/combat system, painfully stupid inventory management, incredibly cheesy dialog, and yes, shortages of ammo and an overall "scarier" experience.
My problem with Kevin and those like him (the RE "purists") is their unwillingness to sacrifice some of the survival horror aspect of the series in order to make it actually fun to play. And even though RE5 was reviewed by another reviewer at Gamespot, it got an 8.5. Even though a lot of the critics have been a bit less enthusiastic about RE6, it still has a Metacritic rating of 76, and I'd argue if it weren't for the blatant slaps in the face from Gamespot and a few others, the Metacritic rating would be closer to 80 or 85 (basically on par with RE5).
I've not completed it yet, but so far I find RE6 to be my favorite so far of the series. I never liked the clunky tank-like controls of the pre-RE4 games, and while the cinematic camera had it's advantages for making the game a bit scarier, the developers used it out of necessity! The PS1 was not capable of rendering a fully 3D RE game, or at least one that wouldn't look like garbage. The Gamecube was a different story and they proved that with RE4.
I know this is a long and probably confusing rant on my part, but I'm utterly disgusted with Gamespot for boycotting this game with a 4.5 rating. This, along with other recent problems, is why Gamespot will not be around for too much longer and people are turning to IGN, The Escapist, and even traditional gaming magazines. I truly hope this is the end of the line for you Gamespot and I have lost all respect for Kevin VanOrd.
You know I wasn't really digging it until he gleefully cheered, "Best ride ever!" while falling and pounding a dude's face in. Actually that was really the only part I liked...
