I think part of it might be, Sony doesn't want consumers to feel so alienated. I mean you can be like "I have my PSP and I love it. This one's a little better, but I don't regret my purchase." It's a better reaction than "Sony screwed me, releasing a product for relatively the same price but does leaps and bounds above mine, even when running the same software." There are certain things I'm sure they want to add, but can't. If they added that 2nd analog stick, and say a new game developer wanted to make games with that in mind, would that not alienate the first 2 generation psp users? Not everyone can afford a shiny new psp every time a new edition comes out after all.
