Fundamentally when a character is supposed to be you, is it really a great idea to have them speaking?
The "non-speaking" protagonist is a classic & enduring tool used to improve immersion.
You can think whatever you want without being forced to disagree with your onscreen self!
Also, from a practical angle, the lead character would have many, MANY times more lines to record than any other character so this saves time, money & space in development.
