@Xristophoros: In addition to the story being such a huge component in his games, for me, personally, it's also partly because these games have so much potential. It's frustrating to know the visuals, music, direction, and acting are all there without the fundamental, solid writing to back them up. With a better script, imagine what Heavy Rain could be--and that's hard to shake off when it comes to reviewing Quantic Dream's work.
Additionally, Cage talks big game, lol. He's always going on about the high quality and self-importance of his games, and that doesn't do him any favors. He invites the scrutiny.
@Richardthe3rd: That's interesting, because I think The Gunslinger is the best of the series, largely because it's so lean and focused. That said, I can see how there are many elements of it that feel undeveloped, as if King were throwing things at the wall and seeing what would stick. And he was basically stuck trying to make all of those things work in concert as the books went on.
We'll see how this movie goes. I'm not fond of it taking in other elements from the later books, but maybe that will give it the flexibility it needs.
Really enjoy the game, personally. The narrative is relatively uninspired compared to the trilogy (the aliens are particularly egregious), but I think the characters, though more mundane, are interesting, and the writing is compelling.
I'm not enthusiastic about the open-world elements, and I'll take the linear, focused missions of ME2/3 any day, but BioWare has definitely reigned in that aspect since Inquisition. The maps feel more palatable, and they sell better the idea that you're actually a pioneer making an actual impact on what would be otherwise uninhabitable planets.
@game4metoo: I don't know if The Division is necessarily worth your 3DS, but if you don't see yourself using it in the future at all, can't hurt to put it towards some extra cash.
I've bought season passes before, but I had one bad experience when I bought the season pass for The Evil Within on Xbox 360. I love the game, and I love the DLC, but when the second content pack didn't register, despite my having purchased the season pass, you can imagine I was less than pleased. For that reason, I'll always opt to buy the content directly from the online store now. You bypass any sort of intermediary that could rob you of your money, even if it's only because of a glitch in the system.
@louixiii: I pre-ordered on Amazon, and there's a "day one" edition that's going for the same price. You get a soundtrack, a starter guide, and a steelbook, I think.
