I haven't played Eternal, but I felt that Doom 2016 was at least a 9 -- it was probably my favorite modern FPS. Sometimes, the reviewers have some arbitrary pet peeves that I feel affect their reviews in a subjective manner. This is understandable and furthermore I believe unintentional. Seemingly there are going to be certain genres (particularly adventure games) that tend to get higher reviews and praise than warranted (i.e. "Journey", which I enjoyed, but not game-of-the-year caliber...) and games that perhaps the reviewers happen to be a bit off on the other way around (i.e. Last of us getting an 8).

I actually never get games new -- the cost even on Black Friday will still be $40+ typically. I can usually find games 6 months-2 years after release for $30 or less (obviously there are exceptions). Not only is the game cheaper, but by this time, patches that improve the game and free content has already been added much of the time which will give you a better overall experience for less money. I so understand that not everyone would care to wait, but I'm never in a hurry to try new games since I'm so backlogged with all the great quality games I have gotten for free on PS Plus or for very cheap. To get back to the question, this leaves me with little incentive to go after Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales for software -- hardware is another story I guess.
I have the Samsung Galaxy S9 and I love it. I used to have the HTC phones and I loved them as much if not more but I got this one free. In between this and my previous HTC I got an LG Stylo and was not a fan -- big beautiful screen but phone was not durable and user features were a bit lacking. My SGS9 is a phone I'm very pleased with.
I was not a fan of it either -- far too forgiving. On the hardest mode, I'd hide in bushes, get people's attention, and stealth kill entire camps. If I alerted someone, I'd gallop away and come back shortly and resume. The series has always been fun to explore and discover new areas and the story is decent, but the gameplay has never been executed well in my opinion to be a great experience.
@Macutchi: I remember that haha good reference. I lol'd during that part. Too bad we haven't seem a new Splinter Cell for a while :(
Good cliches -- unpredictable twists, brave and humble protagonists, strong takeaway messages, fast travel
Not good cliches -- final bosses having more than one form after you "defeat" them, grinding, loot, moments where the protagonist is caughtdead-to-rights and the villain spares their life for no reason, season passes
