@mrbojangles25: You feel ripped off for paying a substantial sum for multiple items before they were even announced, and in some cases before they were even made?

Maybe you've learned your lesson. Stop buying shit before it's on a shelf and before other people have had their hands on it. This is the simplest case of buyer beware, and the relatively young gaming audience falls for it hook, line, and sinker. Plans change, projects get axed, don't put your money down on their promises before the fact.

I must say...not a whole lot actually happens in this game. The consequences for the ending are huge and the Halo universe is definitely different afterwards, but...man, everything leading up to the ending is just filler, and the playable characters are so inconsequential. It seems like every organic character is just an observer trying to absorb a big picture only [two special inorganic characters] truly grok. Locke was such a weak addition to the franchise that ended up being a whole lot of nothing. I could easily summarize this game in a couple of paragraphs such that nobody would ever have to play campaign and everyone can move on with multiplayer. That's a shame. You can't do that with Halo 2. Or even 3. Too much happens in those games.

Any CEO of a large, multi-focus tech company that claimed they wanted to drop their gaming division would be committing career and company suicide. They'd basically be outing themselves as a middle-aged has-been, completely out of touch with a lucrative new entertainment medium that people actually want. And they'd immediately craft a public perception that they are incompetent enough to think dropping a healthy, large branch of the business is somehow justified according to that out of touch worldview. I'm sure investors wouldn't be too happy, either.

I was hoping you guys might talk a little about code injection, this episode was really thin on actual information.

I definitely remember the old days of hacks back in CS1.6, and even today I think there are non-VAC protected servers where you can jump on and play with other people running hacks. It's crazy wacky and fun, but stay well away from VAC servers, as your Steam account worth hundreds might get shut down forever.

I just haven't used them in years. At my age and with my personality, my desire to cooperate and have fun is much larger than my desire to win at all costs. The "do it to win" mentality seems to be prevalent among more aggressive, younger folk.

Make another photorealism episode on ray-tracing. Unless Cam has already talked about it. Ray-tracing is the holy grail of lighting and shading.

As it stands, the reason PC settings menus are so damn long is because there are literally dozens of algorithms and effects that go into faking the behavior of light. Ray-tracing...simulates the actual behavior of real light. It's all we'll need.

However, for current processor technology, it's almost completely unfeasible to do in real-time, and may be for some time to come.

@markypants @drysprocket Give us a synopsis! Instead of just the sit-down interview, have a little intro or outro bit that covers your actual impressions and any additional questions you asked that we should know the answers (or lack thereof) to. Specs of the PC running the demo, wishy-washyness about Rome II, flaws you saw in the gameplay that might have been carried over, plans for launch.

I know Gamespot's done it for years, but doing little preview videos where you just watch some gameplay and get the PR white-washed narration of the studio person while leaving out the important bits people care about does not end up being very informative for your audience; they'd be greatly enhanced with just a few changes like the ones I mentioned.

I totally see Danny's point. It's frustrated me for years now that shooters stopped changing all that much after 2007 (Crysis stands out to me as a high point and inspiration for many current shooters); that RTS games managed to devolve into real-time tactics as the big RTS developers sought that ever-envied wider audience; that many obscure game structures pioneered in weird PC experiments are marginally changing existing console experiences (for example, Guild Wars and Destiny), or have even been abandoned in favor of genre archetypes (Guild Wars to Guild Wars 2).

VR has a chance to affect some great change, but it seems like we're tapping into the same pool and just trying to mix and match, or maybe polish up what's already there. And now that we have an entire population of gamers who have come of age in a world where the rate of change has been painfully slow, opinions could not be more divergent.

They're going to be incredibly satisfied with Destiny. Older folks can't help but be disappointed.
