WE can change this but WE can't live without the newest Madden, COD, Halo, or Pokemon game. Until people can hold off on buying their favorite games then they're going to keep doing this. Money is power and if enough people don't buy something it gets the attention of the head guys and they'll make the changes needed to fix it. We could lower game prices, make online play free, and make stuff like costumes, weapons, play modes, and all other non major DLC free.
Nintendo has found a nice way to be in the console wars without being directly involved. They found what works for them but really the Wii was just a last gen console with a fancy control system. The WiiU looks like it'll just compete with the 360/PS3 but once the new gen starts they'll be way behind again. Everything the PS and Xbox offer is stuff I'm more interested in and I expect Nintendos lack of 3rd party love to continue for a 3rd straight generation.
Cosmo think about it. If there was just 1 console you would be at their mercy. They could sell a console for $2000 and they would just tell you that you don't have any better options. Also most of those great games would not exist cause the game companies made most of those games to compete or copy what the other company had made.
