I don't see why they should do any more than that, without having sufficient evidence that this whole thingisn't actually a hoax.

I mean...It's bagged salad. And the impression I got was that the bagwasn't opened until the people got it home. And at that point, anyone can just toss a dead rat into the salad and say that it was there when they bought it.

The problem here is that this seems like something that'd be incredibly easy to fake. If they just hand out a large sum of money without first actually determining how the mouse got there, then that'll be easy justification for anyone and everyone to buy the salad, throw a dead rat into it, and then ask for money.

It's like...I live in the USA along the Gulf of Mexico. I live in a town which depends heavily on tourism. I also work in a restaurant. So...when a major environmental disaster happens which can potentially have a major effect on the local economy, people understandably want some kind of comepensation.

The problerm is that aftyer the Deepwater Horizon disaster, initial payments (this being the INITITIAL payments) were VASTLY more than what many people actually lost. So, like...you'd have someone filing a claim stating that he lost $2500 in wages. That being a totally honest claim. That's how much he thinks he legitimately lost, and he isn't asking for any more. So he sends in the paperwork, waits for everything to get reviewed. A couple of weeks later, he receives a check in the mail for $8000.

Now, keep in mind that this is the INITIAL payment. There's another payment coming, that's pretty much guaranteed. Keep in mind that the actual money this person received was like...3 times what they HONESTLY thought that they lost. Remwember that, because that's soon going to become important.

Anyway, I saw people who didn't lose ANY income seeing other people getting overpaid for lost earnings. Those people who didn't lose ANY income then go file a claim and end up getting $9000. At that point, it was an ugly time, because I was constantly surrounded by people getting taken over by greed. I'd look at otherwise respectable and intelligent and decent people and see them just talking as if the whole thing was about giving out money that people don't deserve.

I mean, people DIED. About a dozen families ended up having to perform FUNERALS, and yet I still heard otherwise smart and rational people saying "thank god for the oil spill, I just got handed a $10,000 check. Money for nothing, baby!"

Anyway, here's my thing. If I file a claim, and submit the proper paperwork, then I don't know how to determine what I deserve. I'm just a stupid **** who is bad with numbers, and I'm submitting the paperwork to the people who are supposed tro be assessing how much I am entiteled to. So if I claim losses of $2000 and end up getting a check for $9000, that's not my fault. However, it IS my fault if I start treating the final payment as just an opportunity to get wads off cash by doing not a goddamn thing.

See...after the initial payments were made, a Final Payment offer was made to everyone who received an initial payment. That offer wa basically this..."accept a $5000 payment and give up your right to sue for future damages. Or refuse the $5000 offer and you don't get jack **** unless you can provide documentation that you were REALLY harmed by the disaster."

Me...I just took the $5000. I fgured...they already gaave me a HELL of a lot more money than I asked for, and a HELL of a lot more money than I deserve. I was already more than compensated for my losses, and this $5000 payment is basically just buying me off so I can never ask for more money from them ever again. And I am comfortable with that. I was more than compensated for what I lost, and they're specifically offering me this money to officially close the deal. Fair enough. I took the $5000 and never looked back. But there were way too many people saying "**** that, I ain't setttling for that. $5000, that's a joke. I got $10,000 over the summer for just the initialpayment. If they want this to be all the money I'm ever getting from them, them I want at least $20,000".

With these being people who were already compensdated for WAY more than they lost during the initial payment, and who somehow took an extra $5000 as an insult. Point being...at some point, it stopped being "this disaster resulted in real losses for me and I'm asking for fair compensation" and ended up becoming "holy ****, these guys are just giving away money. This whole tragedy might have cost me $3000 mrealistically. But as long as they're just giving away free money, I'm not gonna stop until I get at least $100,000 out of other peoples' suffering."

And that's my point. Maybe it'd be smart to offer these people a L"ITTLE more than a free salad. But these people shoudn't get a ****load of money without some actual hard evidence that this isn't a hoax. Because...this seems like a hell of a hard thing to prove. Give them an assload of money for nothing more than the accusation, and that's gonna tell a LOT of people that they can get free ****ing money by just buying bags of salad and tossing dead rats into it. And yes...the prospect of easy free money absolutely CAN get many otherwise intelligent and compassionate people to turn into monsters.

Refunding the bag of salad might not be enough, but they sure as hell shouldn't go overboard with compensations until determining thatthis isn't just a hoax orchestrated to get free money.
