Well in terms of gameplay, (ignoring graphics in which pretty much every 3d game are dated in 2 hours) I'd say most, good at least rtses stand up alright because they really haven't advanced much since the late 90s. In fps I find that a lot of old games seem really dated and get dated really quickly, though the really good ones like half life stand up alright.

I dunno how old it is or how many people know about it, but there was this rpg called Nox that I though was awesome and I personally felt was better than diablo, though for some reason I've just never liked diablo too much, so I'm biased.

EDIT: well I just looked it up, it's from 2000, so not that old.

I haven't played WoW (though from what I hear from my friends who do, it's not so great) but I'd also say that the cod community is the best, everyone seems to be way more mature than in other games.

People with good comps who also have the settings way down, in other words mostly nobody. I think most people are fine with about 30 fps now a days except for some really fast multiplayer FPSes.

Hard to say, my personal favorite is age of empires 2 with dawn of war/COH a close second.

I can see how starcraft is an awesome game and it deffinately seems balanced well but for some reason it's just never made it for me. So, anyway I guess my vote goes to AOEII.

EDIT: Oh, I completely forgot about homeworld (you can tell which game I played more) now I don't know what to say.

I personally quite liked aoeIII but I think overall I liked Medieval II better for deffirent reasons, and also unless you really get into aoeIII's multiplayer (which personally I find can be pretty awesome just like aoeII) Medieval II will last you way longer especially because the actually campaign in aoeIII is pretty bad. But yah, also, if you don't have aoeII, buy it.

I personally think that it's a good thing hardware requirements influence the score of PC games because they are one of the reasons PC gaming isn't as popular with the general puplic anymore, which is who really matters. When my familly got it's first budget computer back in 2000 it could play every game that was out at the time. I don't remember it not being able to play a game untill I tried to play the AOM demo. Now budget computers don't run much of anything. Is it any wonder that all those people who used to buy one or two games for their spare time on there run of the mill computer don't anymore?

Maybe I should try that with my drive, it's been doing weird things for a while. Last time I tried to burn a dvd it literally melted a bit of it.
