I find that opening up the PS2 and readjusting the laser height is what always works when my system has read errors. Even if you notice that the system is reading slowly, this will help. You just have to fool around and find what height works best. From the bottom position, I find that turning the gear about 180 degrees (half rotation) works the best on mine. I still have my original system, but have to do this about every 6 months or so because the laser height likes to change itself. It really is easy to do and only takes about 20 minutes.
