so this article comes to only one conclusion according to the writer, were f***d. you are forgetting one thing about art, art is about ones interpretation of it, it is supposed to trascend the "artist" and the audience and then become something more important than both of them. And you talk about monet, monet never promised anything with his art he wasnt trying to get an audience, monet was not a company, and provided no bussiness model for his work, he did it for his art's sake. bioware and EA are not a struggling painter or writer, they are a product and service company that wins millions of dollars for every game they make, they need to mantain a certain standard of what their audience wants with their games, because without an audience, there is no "artist"
when I was younger I had a dream about a game that combined a game like Driver on ps1, and I loved it but you werent actually able to do much except drive and get out of the car and into another car, so I actually spent most of the time our of the car just walking around the city, and also combined a shooter in which you could kill anyone or at least choose to (loved Doom). Then I saw GTA 3 in my rich cousin's ps2, and next i know i spent all summer working for a ps2, GTA was the only reason I ever bought a ps2 and Im glad I did.
