I have just started to get into jrpgs and I was wondering which ones are the best.

It mostly depends on what you are looking for, but I'd say Shin Megami Tensei games are the best. You should really look into them if you love a challenge and like playing games multiple times as they all, (or most of them at the very least), have alternate endings. Another thing, Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy are very good. Then there are games that do not have franchises such as The World Ends Wth You and others. I'd also like to mention that someone recommended .Hack// and while they have great stories, they are VERY EXPENSIVE AND RARE given the time they were released and the gameplay is pretty awful; it's just a button mashing fest so I can't say you should try to get it first.

EDIT: Oh! Before I forget, there's the Tales Franchise which spans multiple consoles and while I haven't played them all, I've heard Vesperia for 360 is good, while Tales of Symphonia is my favorite and Xillia looks like it'll be good as well. All in all, the franchise is a hit and miss for me since it's not that consistent as a series.

I am a Final Fantasy fan. I haven't played all of them (Beat VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2 and XII) But I have all of them and will be playing them in due time. Dragon Quest VIII is one of my favorite games but I've never played any of the other titles in the series. good_sk8er7

You're seriously missing out man, Final Fantasy IX, while not my favorite is definitely one of the best games in the series. It just seems like they got everything right in that game. It's a shame that it doesn't get more love from the FF fanbase. As for the topic on hand, FF is a great series, but their stories as of late haven't been as engrossing as the DQ titles. Granted, the games I did play are remakes, so who knows? Maybe even DQ's stories will start to stale out as they hit number XI and up.

This is very interesting. So far, from the comments I've seen on this thread, it seems that while Final Fantasy and/or Dragon Quest is indeed revered, they aren't really the most beloved titles RPG wise. I myself find Persona 4 to be the best JRPG I've ever played with Nocturne behind it, but this is interesting nonetheless. It kind of raises the question as to whether or not Final Fantasy had lost its sparkle during the PS2 era and not in fact, the PS3 gen.

Why do you say that? I've yet to play it, but it did look really interesting.

That guy tossed his child into the air far too high. It's a fact that what he did was very irresponsible and it can also be seen as a fact that he's borderline retarded.

Well, what I want is pretty simple:

• Price and definitive release date
• Square Enix confirmation of Kingdom Hearts III, (although the series has gotten A LOT worse)
• This last one I cannot stress enough... METAL GEAR SOLID V GAMEPLAY AND WHETHER IT'LL ALL BE ON ONE DISC

Well, as long as there are no surprises such as DRM or used game fees and other nonsensical things, I'll probably buy one two to three months after launch. Then again, launch consoles are very faulty most of the time so I'm not sure and you have to take into account that the library at launch will be sub par in my opinion, (Second Son notwithstanding).

This is like one of the most optimistic threads in all of Gamespot. :roll:
