The list of PS4 and PS Vita titles playable at Gamescom is up. The list is not complete, of course, as some things are kept under wraps until the event.

First, some interesting things learned from the list:

  1. Journey for PS4 confirmed. Journey for Vita is unknown. I sure hope it comes to Vita.
  2. PS Move game Until Dawn is headed to PS4 now.

Try booting in safe mode, and restoring default settings, and the file system. Rebuilding the database may also help.

-----

Step 1: Turn off the PLAYSTATION 3 by holding the Power button on the front of the unit till the Power light is red.

Step 2:

  1. Touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the first beep, meaning the PLAYSTATION 3 is powering on.
  2. Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep, indicating the video reset.
  3. Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a third beep and the system will power off (Power light is red).

Step 3:

  1. Touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the first beep, again for the PLAYSTATION 3 to power on.
  2. Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep for video reset.
  3. Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a quick double beep. At that point release the Power button. If you succeeded in activating SafeMode, you will see a message on the screen saying, "Connect the controller using a USB cable and then press the PS button."

As reported by Gematsu.

The Unfinished Swan is coming to PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, a pair of Korean Game Rating Board listings reveal.

The game, developed by Giant Sparrow, first launched for PlayStation 3 via PlayStation Network in October 2012. It follows a young boy named Monroe, who is chasing after a swan that has escaped a painting made by his mother.

For those PS4 and Vita owners who never got to play this on PS3, or never had a PS3, this could be a good opportunity for you to enjoy this wonderful and unique game. I played this on PS3, and am really looking forward to replaying it on my Vita.

Hoping it will be cross-buy for all 3 platforms too, but will have to wait for an official announcement to find out I guess.

Waiting for Journey and rain now...

Just keep in mind that if you buy a US copy, and then want to buy DLC for it, you will probably need to purchase the DLC from the US store (you'll need to create a US account and buy a US PSN voucher). Same deal if you import the game from Japan.

@The_Golden_Age-: Not sure where you got the idea that the Killzone Mercenary dev closed. Guerrilla Cambridge (formerly Sony Cambridge, best known for the Syphon Filter series) is still very much in business. In fact, they are currently hiring for what is believed to be a PS4 title in development.

Here's a recent article about this.

Write a bunch of potential IDs on small pieces of paper. Put them all in a hat. Shake hat. Pull out one and read it. Use that name.

People keep saying they want AAA on Vita.
We had AAA on Vita (Uncharted, Gravity Rush, Unit 13, Wipeout, Need for Speed).
"Needs more AAA games", they said.
So we got more AAA on Vita (Resistance, Killzone, Assassin's Creed, Borderlands, Call of Duty).
"Vita lacks AAA", they said..
So naturally, this happens. There's isn't an infinite supply of money Sony and other publishers can pour into these sorts of games when they aren't selling enough to justify their continued existance. More early adopters, less nay-sayers might have changed this.

Problem for gamers: many of those saying they want AAA on Vita, would rather buy and play AAA for console or PC anyway, and some are just kidding themselves.
Problem for publishers: "Why develop a AAA game for a handheld, when you can develop a AAA game for the popular new console and option remote play to the handheld?"

Nobody wants to spend tens of millions of dollars developing a Vita game. Not even a 3DS game. Sony tried it. Ubisoft tried it, and have provided a lot of great games for the system. Sony may do it again in future. At the moment, they appear reluctant to. Killzone Mercenary had some success, Borderlands 2 had some success. So you may see more stuff like that, but it's not hard to see why there's so little motivation now.

A Killzone Mercenary sequel is pretty much a certainty. Gravity Rush 2 is still in development and will be along next year. Sony will continue to develop Vita software in Japan for a long time to come. Their studios in the west will tend to focus more on PS4.

The Vita has found it's niche with indies and JRPGs, and I think it's doing wonderfully in that space. I spend more time playing games on my Vita, than I do with my PS3, PS4, 3DS XL, or PC. I still have a crazy backlog that I can't keep up with, and there are a flurry of releases I'm keen to buy in the next few months alone.

While lacking in the sort of mario/zelda/pokemon/etc staples that Nintendo's handheld has, the Vita's library is solid and boasts plenty of variety, at better quality on average, and an overall better library than the 3DS has. My 3DS XL is my Pokemon, occasional JRPG, and Puzzle Bobble device. My Vita is my go-to device for indies, JRPGs, assorted weird Japanese stuff, occasional AAA, PSP, PS1 classics, my Destiny of Spirits addiction, puzzle games, platformers, remote play, and general time and boredom killer. Lovin' it!

@edbeam: SCEE are not all-powerful Gods who command retailers like willing minions. Too many Europeans are either importing or buying digital, thus it is becoming increasingly difficult for publishers to push shipments to retailers. Thus, no physical Freedom Wars. No physical Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1 either. Thus no physical Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment. And it's going to get worse. Especially for niche Japanese titles. Especially for handheld titles. Especially for Vita titles.

Your petition is lousy and misses the whole point.

Case-by-case basis.

I've really enjoyed Destiny of Spirits, which I've played for well over 150 hours, and what little I've played of No Heroes Allowed: No Puzzles Either was quite good.

I also played a lot of Tekken Revolution when it came out, and it was plenty of fun.

If I ever spend any kind of money on something in-game, I treat it the same way as anything else in life. Is it good value? Will it bring me pleasure/entertainment/satisfaction? Is there nothing else I would rather do with this money right now? If I'm having fun with the game and it seems like a good idea, then I'll consider paying for something. If not, no harm done, move on. Simple. Painless.

Games, in which I have spent money on micro-transactions in-game (AU dollars):

  • Destiny of Spirits (About $25 all up. No regrets. You don't really need to spend money to get by in this game, though.)
  • NBA 2K14 (About $15 on coins. Wasn't really worth it in the end. I just used it to boost up in the My Player career mode. I got the game with PS Plus so I don't really care).
  • Tekken Revolution (I think it was about $7 or so. I had spent 30+ hours on the game for free, and felt like wasting some money. No regrets. I had fun with it.)
  • World of Warcraft (This probably doesn't really count because back when I played, the pet store wasn't accessible in-game, but I used to buy pets and mounts for friends and guildmates for birthdays, or as gifts for helping me with something, or just if I felt in a generous mood. I had bought some of them for myself too, such as that charity pet for the Japanese tsunami relief. I paid for a few server transfers on occasions, a couple faction changes, couple re-customizations).

That's about all I can think of right now.
