@lamprey263: They are protecting themselves from consequences. It's nothing new... it's called closing ranks.

Imagine you worked as a cop and you witnessed whatever it was that happened. Would you want to be the one cop with a totally different version of events? If the media weren't covering this so aggressively you'd probably regret dropping a colleague in the deep end. As long as nobody is taking the yam out of your savouring mouth who cares?

So it's okay because everyone else is corrupt? That doesn't excuse things. But I can understand why nobody wants to rock the boat, they'll lose their jobs or worse. And yeah nobody else will be on their side and it would be a pretty pointless one side battle. Still, doesn't make the system right.

No it doesn't and I'm not excusing the corruption. Just trying to imagine what it's like from their side.

That's why people don't trust cops. They all wear the same uniform and unless you know them as individuals you have to tar them all with the same brush. That's why I can't abide people defending them, particularly if the said people are coppers themselves.

Truth is that when you have a rotten orchard you can't really salvage it.

The way I see it you can't point to one single thing...

I do remember a lot of people were asking for TOU change now that LJ mentions it. You couldn't argue or debate after that without constant trolling taking place if I remember right. It was always entertaining to have a heated debate before that.

That Malaysian airlines thing bothered me a bit. A local farmer was interviewed on the news for a few seconds claimed he could see people falling from the plane after it was hit. Cant remember how many kids they said were on board... thinking 80 if im not mistaken. What bothers me is I feel angry that they can get away with it, and everybody else seems to be making excuses for whoever was responsible.

On top of that you have the general stuff you read in the paper like corrupt politicians covering up pedophile rings, care home workers beating Alzheimer's sufferers, racist cops, a dysfunctional self serving government, the never ending conflict between Palestine and Israel and so on.

All the heavy hitters just *talk* for the sake of appearing to be in control, or because they feel obligated to but nobody actually seems to ever do anything meaningful. The truth is it bothers you less and less the longer it goes on and you should get used to the idea that people are inherently nasty to one another more often than not; it's just the way we are.

Here's the thing. Conflict sells. The news is entertainment in much the same way as movies, and most entertaining stories involve either a villain or a conflict. You're already gonna get a skewed perspective by watching the news, because it's in the news media's best interests to play up conflicts and tragedies. That's what sells.

Secondly, realize that to a large extent the news deals with the uncommon. Some people say, "well why doesn't the news show cops being good?" Part of the answer is because cops being good isn't news. It's not exceptional. It's the expected state of affairs, it's how things normally go, so there's nothing to say about it. 9/11 was HUGE news because that was unexpected as hell. Some drug dealer getting murdered by a rival? Not news because you expect it.

So maybe you just shouldn't put so much faith in the news as an accurate representation of reality. It's entertainment and its primary purpose is to be marketable. There are real atrocities that get glossed over or ignored, but there are also things that get drastically overexagerrated because it makes for a good story and gets people riled up.

I know what you mean. It's just the way things look but it doesn't make sense that in this day and age we are still having these issues.

A lot of kids on that plane. Awful to think about that.

I've just got my bandit's knife to 10 and it doesn't seem to be the beast it was in the last game, but the bleed is useful at times. I'm just wondering what performs better, preferably scaling with dexterity but as long as it has a very high critical it doesn't matter.

Flip side to that coin is I don't like being invaded, but it's part of the game so I tolerate it.

I also summon and lag stab and estus as much as possible... I got a message from somebody in belfry luna the other day complaining about being stabbed in the back while fighting my summon and my response was that I am sick of being invaded, sometimes by two people at a time and as an invader you have no right to complain about the terms.

You just said that it positively improves your life even though it can have detrimental effects on a persons mental health.
