between those 2 the HP is likely the better buy imo except for the video of course.

Personally id highly reccomend looking into Gateway's FX edition P-series laptop, im very likely going to get one myself and they save you a loooooot of cash and still are as good if not better with maybe an exception with the speed of the CPU. Otherwise ASUS are the runner up for a bit more cash and you can find lots of good deals on those on newegg.com

Oh cool, i was not aware of some of that stuff, I'll almost certainly have to go with that in that case.

Performance overall is probably better as well I assume, and it functions otherwise just like DDR does?

In laptop versions, what are the differences between the 2 kinds of DDR's?
What are speed differences?
Are there any differences in running dual channel or anything? (example 4 gigs of either, do they still dual channel normally?)
Anything else? Are they worth the extra cash?

Thanks!

Hello, i'm currently looking at 2 different laptops and wondering which one would be better as a whole
The options:

ASUS G Series G50VT-A1 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220404

Gateway P-780u FX Edition http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668231.php

Here are the main trade offs:
Asus has nvidia 9800M GS 512MBDDR3 while the gateway has an nvidia 9800M GTS 1GBDDR3
Gateway has an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8400 (2.26GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 3MB L2 Cache) and Asus has an Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 (2.53GHz)
Gateway has 4GB of DDR3 RAM and Asus has 4GB of DDR2 RAM
Gateway has 320GB/7200RPM Hard drive and Asus has 500GB/7200RPM
Gateway is $1300 and Asus is $1700 or $1600 (A 300 or 400 difference)

Otherwise the gateway has a lesser webcam, weighs more, has less shiny stuff, BUT has an HDMI port but ill likely never use that.
Also, I'd trust Asus before gateway usually.

So what is overall better for price and quality? Thanks!

The first choice there is tricky because its 6gb ram, and im not too sure whether it would be running in dual channel mode, whereas the other 2 laptops are 4gb dual channel ram, dual channel is obviously better, but im assuming your not doing video editing, i would choose your 3rd choice if you plan on having lots of movies and music, and games/programs, but the 2nd is just as good, same resolution, the plus side to the 1st choice is the 1900x1200 resolution, but the latter 2 have 1680x1050 which is admirable for a laptop mate. Will you be watching blu ray movies on this laptop?, if so get the more expensive one like ya said there, but for the best value id get the cheaper one because a dvdrw is fine for a laptop, think most people prefer to watch bluray on a ps3/blurayplayer or desktop pc with a bigger screen.

Yeah, I'm not sure if it would either, but I generally like and know dual channel to be quite nice, esp cause i do plan on doing lots of gaming. I'm kind of leaning towards the second because also i think the first one is discontinued so I'm kind of ehhh about that for warranty sake and whatnot. I'd consider option #3 if I am able to shell out the extra bit of cash, as I'm not real concerned about watching Blu-Ray stuff and 500gb is perfectly fine for me right now. Thank you! :P

Fantasticic, I think I'm set for 64-bit then :P

I'm thinking of getting one of these 3:

ASUS G71G-A1 http://www.infotechnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=6148

ASUS G50VT-A1 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220404

ASUS G50VT-A2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220405

The latter 2 are the same but one has a little bit more space and a different drive, more comes down to money there.

[QUOTE="Jimko2222"]

What are the major differences and such between the 2 styles? Ive never had a 64-bit os before so i am a bit clueless on this subject.
What's better overall, esp in a laptop?

Also, what's better, 4gb of DDR3 or 6gb of DDR2?

Finally, what is better overall, an intel core 2 duo p8700 or an intel core 2 duo t9400?

Lyron-Baktos

With 4GB or 6GB of ram either way you would want to go with the 64-bit OS as the 32-bit will not be able to utilize all 4GB depending on what the GPU is. At frist their were problems with driver support for a 64-bit os but that isn't really a problem anymore.

I'd likely be rocking at least a 9800M GS pci-e 16x 2.0 with at least 512vram, so it sounds like I would want 64-bit for sure. Thank you!
Sounds good enough for my initial question, anyone have any idea for my other questions?

I can only vow for the Lachesis as that's my one and only Razer ive ever had.

I came from a logitech G5 so one of the major things to me was that the shape of the Lachesis is rather odd in comparison and doesnt form fit as well but once you get used to it it works very well and the sensitivity and speed is quite lovely. I personally dont use any acceleration and keep the system sensitivity to medium and crank it on the settings of it. It looks very pretty too, and the razer logo GLOWS :O it amazed me, heh. I'd reccomend it. Only other flaw is that the buttons on the sides are kind of poorly placed, mainly on the right side and me being righty, you have to be careful you dont accidentally hit them when you try to move the mouse sometimes. Hope all goes well for ya!

Hello, I'm historically a desktop builder and buyer, so I am a little clueless when it comes to knowing what to look for as far as parts for getting a pre-made laptop with things such as "Amd vs intel" "nvidia vs ati" and what specific kinds of cores and gpus to get.

Any help would be highly appreciated! Thanks!
