As an avid retro gamer, this announcement really excited me. I don't think $8 is a bad price considering these are never-before, legally available on a console, arcade versions. I mean, it's cheaper than lunch! I'm sure I'm not alone in being most excited for Punch-Out. I'm also planning on getting Super Mario Bros, Pinball, Excitebike, and Urban Champion.

I just downloaded Mario Bros. and am loving it. The differences from the NES version are very obvious. More enemies on screen. Graphics and animation are definitely above the home version and even more notably so is the sound. It's got bass like the NES can't produce. It also sounds a bit muffled, which is a quality I associate with arcades, kinda hard to explain. But it is very cool. I'm looking forward to the next releases.

I just did my first solo course. Solid mechanics, for sure. I'm really liking it as well.

For the first phase I did just that (the dodge/flurry).

2nd phase, after the first or second try I noticed the gust, but never used the paraglider since I didn't think there'd be anything to gain from being above him. Slow motion arrows sound like a good idea!

3rd phase, I tried deflecting the shots but they didn't deflect back to him. They just ricochet off to the side. Looks like a timing issue. Plus I believe I took damage. I feel like the shields I get are not as powerful as the weapons and bows I'm finding.

Love that guardian sword, btw. Wish it was more powerful!

@zassimick: Thank you. I figured it was due to not being fully fleshed out yet, but I wanted to check that I wasn't missing anything.

I have over 10 hours played, as per the "activity log". I have 5 hearts, beat 13 shrines, found around 10 korok seeds, discovered one fairy fountain and am on my way to Zora's domain.

I just did my first combat shrine and found it more difficult than I think it was meant to be. I died about 3 times until I just powerd through it, but I assume I was supposed to find a better, more efficient way of dealing with that "mini guardian". So I'm probably not using my runes/techniques properly.

Thanks!

Are you having any issues navigating the eshop?

If I go to the news section on the home screen and click on "what's new in the eshop", all I get are that week's games. From there, I cannot navigate to the eshop home menu to browse all games. Also, I could not find Snipperclips unless I searched for it.

I got an NES a few years after it came out. I was around 10 or 11, so it got me at the perfect age to hook me and make me a Nintendo loyalist.

The SNES I got at launch. It was an amazing experience.

I also got the N64 at launch. I was struggling financially at the time, so not having many games turned out to be a good thing for me. I will say that I was a bit underwhelmed with it, after playing Ridge Racer and Wipeout on the PS1.

The Gamecube was another one I bought at launch (actually, since the SNES, I've gotten all my Nintendos at launch). That, to me, was like going back to the SNES. The system was current, had most of the 3rd party games, and kept that Nintendo charm and uniqueness. Loved it.

Picked up the Wii and WiiU on day one. The Wii was a bit underwhelming. I loved the Wii U until this past year, where Amiibo Festival, Star Fox, and Mario Tennis showed me that Nintendo had given up on the system.

As for the Switch, I have to say I'm skeptical. I'm not excited about it's mobile CPU architecture, and I don't typically game on-the-go. I hope we get an updated and more complete virtual console. And I hope the system is powerful enough for 3rd parties (and hopefully not just get ports of their mobile games).

I picked one up at launch as well. I generally like the experiences. However, I will say that I'm a bit disappointed in the image quality of a lot of games. Driveclub was the most disappointing of all the demos. I actually got motion sickness from it.

I'm having a hard time explaining the graphics. It's like the headset itself has a film grain filter on it. Then on top of that, the games seem to be a lower resolution and a bit pixelated.

Aside from that, the experience is great. The games have been very immersive, and even the 3rd person games, like Robot Rescue and Wayward Sky, make great use of the VR. I can only hope that as the developers get better at VR, that the image quality of games increases.

I wouldn't say that games today suck in such a broad stroke.

However, in keeping with the topic, I'd say that for me, games started to suck when they stopped being games and became experiences. Today's experiences are very good and memorable, but they don't make for the best games that you come back to for the mechanics or fun factor.

At some point in the future, the VC will have so many games and consoles in it...

I'd love for Nintendo to hit that problem first!

The VC is so sparse compared to what it could be.

I don't see a market for Nintendo to make new versions of old controllers. I haven't played an N64 game on the VC, so I really can't comment on that. But the Gamecube controller for Smash was the product of a whole community asking for that. I don't think VC N64 players have enough numbers to make that happen.
