I agree with you this has went on with games for many years but in my opinion this is taking it to a new level for Gears. GoW3 you could buy skins and the option to get a Season Pass for the maps or buy them 'a la carte'. I really believe you will see the Horde and maybe even the Beast mode offered for purchase on the Marketplace. Gaming is really turned an ugly page in the recent past doing this and in game advertising.

This game represents virtually everything wrong in the gaming industry today. This game is all about microtransactions. Go to the skins screen and see virtually every skin is a purchase costing, unless you want to unlock them all for $45. Watch for this, in a month or two you will be able to download Horde mode. The download will cost at minimum $20 and will only be a 108K file that unlocks what is already on the game disc. This game has less to do with Gears of War and more to do with getting CliffyB some extra cash so he can get better breast implants for his woman.

I have been a Gears fan since it was first mentioned back in 2005 prior to its release. Knowing that CliffyB of Unreal fame was designing it was reason enough to take notice. I purchased the Collector's Edition of 1, 2 and 3. I have also purchased a large collection of Gears memorabilia. So I consider myself a fan of the series. Judgment, in my opinion, has a fair enough campaign. As one other poster stated it is much more frantic then in previous games. It doesn't seem to do a lot for character development. After I played the original GoW I felt a connection to the characters and wanted to know more about the story and the world. Judgment's campaign seems more like a single-player component thrown into a multi-player game. As for the multi-player game, I find it quite disappointing. For me OverRun is a nice addition, not everyone is running around with a Gnasher and it is the only mode where you will face the Locust. The other multi-player modes you face-off against other CoGs, I wouldn't mind someone explaining to the me the logic behind this move. There is no longer a Horde mode. This surprised me because it was an innovative mode in the original game and a mode all true GoW fans loved and looked forward too. There are many other things that have been removed that were a hallmark of the Gears franchise. This just feels like a bad attempt to copy things from Halo, such as the outrageous (and distracting) character skins. As a fan I purchased it. But if the franchise is going this direction it will my last purchase in the series.

The absence of split-screen doesn't bother me and I don't work for Ubisoft. However if they are looking for a Software Designer with over 25 years of experience give me a call!

I hope Ubisoft kept the SP campaign as rich as previous releases. I know playing the MP beta was great fun. It didn't have the same run & gun of other games like CoD and BF.

10 = Sold out to the hype. I've seen the game and I'm not interested in it. Wasn't before either. But the graphics are jittery (imo). Seems like the framerate is very low. GameSpot tends to sell out to some games and companies while others the dog their reviews. I don't base my decision on GameStop reviews or early reviews. A guy who preordered this game is going to get it, stick it in him machine, play for an hour and be creamy his pants to right a review on the most perfect game he has ever played. I like reviews that are written by people who have played the game through or at least for 20-30 hours. All these 10s tell me people are suckers for good advertise.

Didn't get and don't plan on it. Way over hyped. Many of the reviews on based on 1-2 hours of game play.

Thanks for the information. I found a 7800 online for $210, pretty reasonable considering what I paid for my 6800 a couple of years ago.

I have a GeForce 6800, best one I could be a couple of years ago. I only have an AGP slot and I was wondering if the 7800 was worth the money to upgrade or if it was so slight a difference that it would be wasting cash.

Free magazine subscribtions for Canadians. I live in Québec, and I was really pissed when I learned that I wouldn't be getting Maxim or FHM with my Total Access subscribtion. And if possible, make it retroactive for already-existing users. :wink:AuthenticM
Hey I live in the US and I didn't it either! Must be because I'm in Iowa. People swear that is outside the US. :)
