From all the input I've been given so far, I've retooled the build to the following:

CPU

Motherboard

RAM

Cooler

Video Card: I'm iffy on this. I've really liked the AMD gpu's so far, so the 7850 looks nice, but the 660ti is the same price. I might lean towards the 7850 simply from past experience.

Disk Drive(I'll keep this the same for now, and I'll also go around to local computer shops and see if they have cheaper. Will also check out Tiger Direct.)

Case (Tentative. This one had a lot of great reviews and was a good $50 cheaper than the very best reviewed case on Newegg.

Not a bad idea, Ronval. I'm mostly trying to keep things in the 700-800 dollar range. Enjoying all the feedback so far, as well. I'll probably go with AMD for the gpu since they've worked so far for me.

Looks like I'll need a new GPU anyway since Newegg is no longer stocking it. I'll stick with Intel for now as well, mostly because lazy. Lastly, I'm not intending to overclock at all, so I'm not really considering it necessary.

This is a build a friend linked me, admittedly, hence the wanting to get it reviewed before I bought anything.

Following is the list of parts I'm thinking of buying. No keyboards, mice, or other peripherals are needed since we've already got those. The only thing I think I'm really missing is a case, so I would greatly appreciate suggestions for that as well

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116505

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131826

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104173

Cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103100

Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127608

Disc Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204

Are there any changes or additions I need to make to this list? Anything I need to get? Thanks in advance.

I bought Arma solely for the DayZ mod, have been playing it with some RPS'ers and it's been quite fun - I would strongly advice anyone wanting to play the mod - to play with friends though..

[QUOTE="Gamewize"]I just watched a few episodes of a Youtube series that's documenting the adventures of two friends playing through DayZ. I found it both hilarious and great fun, so I think the video has sold me. I could see several of the glitches, but the game's mechanics look too interesting for me to pass up, and everything improves with time. ARMA II itself is sounding just as good, so I think I'll go ahead and get it. There are worse ways to spend $30.seanmcloughlin

You made a very good investment. DayZ is one of those rare unique experiences that you should get in and enjoy before it gets too big and fizzles out. Won't be for a while but enjoy it for now :). But it's mroe fun playing with other survivors, solo is great sometimes and leaves you with no responsibilities but to get the best out of it you need to play with friends

After I learn the basics, I'm hoping to find people to play with. The fun in these types of games tend to go up exponentially when you have good friends playing with you.

[QUOTE="Gamewize"]

So I've been looking over Steam's Top Seller list because I'm a sheep and I want to see what's popular. Ruling out the possibility that the list is tilted towards specific games, it seems Arma II: Combiner Operations has been in the top three going on a couple months now.

What's the deal with this game? Is it really that popular or is Steam stacking stats up?

MlauTheDaft

Considering your level, I'm sure you'reacquainted with SW and those monickers mean nothing here ;)

On topic, I expect it's DayZ, although Arma is supposed to be really good in it's own right.

Hehe, I see. Thanks for all of the input here. It's got me seriously interested the game and the players, and at $30 I'm really tempted to get it.

Well, I've played Dark Souls, EVE Online, and Dwarf Fortress, so I'm no stranger to steep learning curves and difficulty. I've been on the fence about it, because I really do enjoy the more realistic, tactics-based shooters, and having seen some videos of ARMA 2 where people cooperate like a real military squad really got me curious about the game, but I wasn't sure if the game was popular or stable enough.
