@shingui5 @Gabe_Logan_666 As I said above, the developers stated before the release that this game was going to be "Dead Island 1.5", not a full sequel. So it should be expected that this game was going to be very much like the first game. A "4.0" score is way too harsh. That is a score that should be given to games that are barely playable. A more fair score would have at least been a 6.
I usually don't have a problem with Gamespot reviews but this one was just awful. Like many people have already said, how is it that this game is exactly like the first one but gets an incredibly low score? When I first saw that "4.0" score I really thought they screwed this game up big time. Then after watching the review I was relieved to see that it looks and plays very much like the first game.
I agree with other people as well, sounds like the reviewer just hated the game and must have hated the first one too. Yes, the game is pretty much the same as the first game, but you also aren't paying full price for it. And the developers even stated in an interview that this game was going to be Dead Island 1.5 basically.
And I may be in a minority here, but I loved the first Dead Island game. I loved the combat espeically. i found it to be very fun and intense at times. The thing I hated most about the video review is that the person playing it is awful. They made the combat look like a clumsy mess when it really isn't. Just don't rush in and swing wildy like a moron.
Take a step back, knock the zombies down, slice or smash their head in. Rinse and repeat. You can be precise with the combat if you want to or you can be an idiot like the person playing in the video review and get your ass handed to you.
Oh well, I am still excited for this game tomorrow.
Dead Island is overall a pretty underated game. No offense to Johnny but his play through of the game made it look incredibly stupid just flailing punches and kicks at the zombies. Once you get some decent weapons and you get the combat timing down, this game becomes a very satisfying zombie survival game. It especially gets intense when you get to the city Moresby and there is literally zombies everywhere. I don't know why people bash this game so much. Yeah, the characters are for the most part bland, the cutscenes aren't incredibly interesting but the combat is intense, brutal and just fun. It did release with glitches when it came out (although I never encountered any) but they have all been fixed. It is IMO the king of zombie games right now right next to Left4Dead. I have been very excited for Dead Island: Riptide and considering what Resident Evil has become, I can only see Dead Island becoming the top zombie game series.
