@The_Mystery_Box:

The current shortage of numbers has more to do with the government deliberately reducing the size of the military than it does with it being an all volunteer force. There is a significant number of service members being forced out that would rather stay in, and recruiting quotas have been reduced across the board.

Because arguing with you is going to be pointless on most items you presented, I'm only going to address the last one. The US does create insurgents every time we kill innocent people. It's also why propaganda is one of the most important tools in a nation's arsenal. The Taliban/Al Queda/ISIS spin every civiilian casualty into appearing to be caused directly by us, or for the good of the people they are trying to recruit.

Yes, the surge in 2009 saw a reduction in attacks, it didn't reduce the number of new recruits into the opposing force. All it effectively did was delay some of the attacks.

Either way, I'm not going to convince you of anything, and to redirect back to the video, anything we can do to protect troops is a good thing. Technology on all fronts is progressing at a rapid pace, and I, for one, think it's an exciting time to be alive!

Part of what makes the US military so successful is the fact that it's an all volunteer force. The top tier forces are there to do exactly what they do. They go into situations where a larger force would be ineffective. Instating a mandatory 2 year enlistment would provide a lot of political dissidence in the home land.

Most importantly, you're right, a soldier is not worth a million dollars. You can't put a price on the worth of a soldier, as they are human beings, just like you.

Also, I don't know where you're getting your data about US Counterinsurgency operations, but throwing massive amounts of soldiers at the problem amplifies the problem. As the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and now ISIS have continued, operations have shifted from large-scale battles to smaller, more focused teams. We have found that the key to fighting insurgency is to stop creating more insurgents.

@nbf4548: Where are they finding a payphone? I don't think I've seen one anywhere but an airport for years.

The video game industry is in a downward spiral, and if Bioware changes the ending to ME3, they're going to accelerate it pretty massively. It's already getting to the point where the vast majority of games are either derivative of something else, or a sequel. Publishers try to stick to familiar ground because we (the fans) don't seem to want anything truly new. We just want a prettier package on stuff we've already seen and done. Until that stops, the video game industry will be effectively crippled.
