Chris' review is pretty accurate to what the experience is. If you're like me and find that the fun of the moment-to-moment gameplay and the excitement of trying out new weapons and warframes that you've crafted outweighs the occasionally monotonous grind and repetitive nature of the missions, then you could probably bump the score up to a 7 or 7.5.

For Chris the grind outweighed the fun, bringing it down to a 6, and that is perfectly reasonable. Beyond that, it is likely to be how most people react to the game. It's not gonna be everyone's cup of tea, and while it might grow on some people if they stick with it long enough, for others it will only get less enjoyable over time as the repetition wears on them.

As someone who has put over a hundred hours into the game and enjoys it despite the repetition and grind, I honestly don't see a whole lot changing about the core gameplay between now and full release later this year. We're guaranteed at least one more mission tile set (outdoor Grineer outposts), with some new enemies to face. But if your primary complaint is the repetition of the gameplay, that's probably not going to change anytime soon.

@edpeterson Digital Extremes told review outlets that it was okay to review the game as though it were released. So they did. Gamespot is not the only outlet to have reviewed this game, and in fact they waited several months longer to do so than most.

@Vari3ty "I don't know what it is about the LOTR, but it seems like a good game for it cannot be made, which is odd because it seems like the perfect setting for a game to take place in." It's because, for whatever reason, developers -- perhaps at the insistence of their publishers -- always make changes. They don't stick to the lore; they don't stick to what makes Middle-Earth unique: its subtlety, sense of place, deep history and believability. The reason Middle-Earth is so fascinating is because it feels like a real place, inhabited by real people, more so than most other fantasy worlds -- and definitely more so than most video game fantasy worlds. Instead of building their game upon the strengths of the IP, developers seem compelled to turn it into Dungeons & Dragons. As if there weren't enough super-high-fantasy games out on the market with all the magic and over-the-top action that anyone could ever want.

The game will probably be entertaining, but the liberties they're taking with the lore of Middle-Earth make me wince. A lot.

Eternal Darkness, check. Silent Hill, check. Fatal Frame, che-- wait. No Fatal Frame? What's wrong with you people? The FF games are the scariest survival horror games I've ever played.

"SSJBen: This is the worst feature I've ever seen on Gamespot." Screw that, this is hilarious. When the flow chart popped up on my screen I LOL'd. And I'm a big DBZ fan. "bigmouthkid: I hope some of the GT characters will be in there." The game only goes up to the Cell Games, so there won't be any GT characters. Mostly throw-away characters like the Ginyu Force and other Frieza flunkies that nobody will play as anyway. BUT, they're including Bardock, which more than makes up for the inclusion of the other stupids.

"fkalim: Gamespot are not the only ones being biased apparently cos gametrailers.com have been doing the same with the console comparisons of graphics, and these comparisons have gotta stop, enjoy the comforts of ur console and be happy with it or get both" How is making an objective comparison being "biased" one way or the other? I fail to see how they could be any more fair about it, short of inviting everyone to their offices to watch the comparisons in person.

godhatch: "god dammit of course halo 3 is going to look the best seen as though it's on the latest generation of console, i wish these comparisant videoes would stop as it just causes people to go into fanboy mode and flame everything in sight." That's not the point. They're showing just how much the game's graphics have progressed, and not just technically, but artistically as well. They aren't saying "Bet you didn't know Halo 3 looks better than Halo: CE!" I, for one, thought it was very interesting to see the older graphics side by side with the newer to see just how much the Halo games' art has improved over the years.

Built "wow.... wasting so much time and money into small games..." Haha! Wtf?! You think integrating these games is costing Microsoft "so much" time and money? Christ, people program more complicated games in their basements on their free time. Where do you think Tetris came from? The majority of the people commenting on this article are either pre-teens or extremely hard to please. I'm a gamer, I play all sorts of genres. But every once in a while, I like to relax with some Spider Solitaire or FreeCell while I chat online, or work on a paper. They aren't bad games -- you're all just too "z0mg l33t" to be bothered with old-fashioned, classic card games. And yet, you're not above wasting your time complaining about how much you hate Solitaire.
