I have always been a console freak and have bought almost every last console till this very day except for the new gen consoles. Mostly I prefer playing on consoles than I do on pc and I think that's probably because of the controller and ease of using a console (no installation etc..).

A few years back I started playing more and more pc games. I think it started with Starcraft, age of empires and Warcraft (Battle.net). Stategy games and LAN/Online games are more pc based games.
While you may be right that the forums of console games are more active and a greater number of VG players are console fans, that is because consoles have a bigger market of games. Almost everyone prefers playing non MMO Rpgs, fighting games, sports games, adventure games, puzzle games and platforms etc on consoles. Stategy games, FPS's and MMO are the most popular genre on PC.

However it seems to me that the future of VG games is going online. I mean sure it's always refreshing to play some superb Rpg like a FF or engage in some amazing game like God of War but after playing a MMO you'd realize what you've been missing out on. The ever competing and interactive world of MMORPGs and online games is just amazing in my opinion. Lately I have been ignoring my console to play online games such as World of Warcraft and Guild Wars.
Though consoles are going online I still think that they will not become as popular as the Pc when it comes to online gaming.

It is for this reason that I say that PC gaming will not die out and might eventually turn out to be more popular than the console gaming.
