I think one of most amazing AI's I have tried lately, was for Assasins Creed, Mass Effect and Prototype. Althou, I played F.E.A.R., that "cover-thing" did not impress me and was more like in normal level than something that "pushes boundaries". Eaven "Elder Scrolls" NPC's knew how to hide, "Call Of Duty MW" series NPC's knows how to cover too... I think, I agree to statement, that AI's should be entertaining, not human-like. Yes, they should learn from human, but just to kill/deal with them more effectively, not by copying their behaviour. Additionally, I agree to some commentaries, many games gas very stupid AI-systems and in most of games, you can realy feel that AI is CHEATING! :D It knows every time where you are and it has much more multi-tasking possibilites than human, and dealing with such a NPC's is just making human angry and making that entertainment very low, eaven irritating. In strategy games all-knowing-npc is main problem. In FPS games, that is less detectable and less annoying... Human is not environment analyzer and mulit-tasking super-gamer, but is more like picture-recognition machine (we use monitor/TV), that uses patterns and experience as only tools to deal with game tasks... PS: I am realy interested in AI, and thinking about bounding my life with it. As to my main hobbie - computer games, game-AI could be best thing for me to work on, but sadly, there are no game-developer companies at my country, that would hire me... :(
