The problem lies with so many developers using pretty graphics as an excuse to churn out lackluster games. I'm not saying that games like Crysis have lackluster gameplay, but I've never heard anything positive about that game that didn't relate to visuals. You can talk about UE3's graphical power all you want, but we've all seen how flawed that engine is when it comes to data streaming and other tech factors that are the real make-or-break aspects. Apart from being a much more satisfying entertainment experience, the gameplay a.k.a. actual involvment is what seperates video games apart from motion pictures.
On my first Ninja Gaiden II playthrough, had to fight the last boss without recovery items. More recently, my connection during WaW matches was crap for no reason yesterday.
The 360's GPU actually performs better than the PS3's, as well. The Nvidia RSX was made for PCs, not consoles, and Sony just threw it in there because of the extra power. The 360's ATI GPU was custom-made.
