I sort of get where the gamers are coming from, but it isn't like this industry is raking in dollars hand over fist. Video games are not movies, or music pre-napster. Yes, it would be great to stick it to Activision or EA, but for every large scumbagging penny pincher company there are 10 smaller ones who could see what tiny profits they have be cut in half by resales.
If you like games, maybe you should side against these "gamers".
I think these politicians are trying to capitalize on what they believe is a marginalized population by blaming them for problems, rather than tackling the real issues. Don't touch gun control - the NRA will ensure you don't get re-elected. Don't touch mental health care, it's expensive and the people that need it don't vote. Focus on violence in the media! But steer clear of movies; everybody likes movies. And you better not touch ubiquitous TV violence, pumped through the airwaves to every household in America. Also, those same TV stations you might attack own news stations, that will skewer you in the public.
No, these politicians try to pick on what they think is a powerless and voiceless demographic. Too bad they are completely out of touch. 15 years ago, gaming was a nerdy subculture without a lot of voting power, as most gamers were kids. Today gaming is socially acceptable and the majority of gamers are of voting age. They are trying to scapegoat and bully an industry for no reason other than they think they can, but these heels are attacking their own voting demographic.
@Jaxith You are right. It's not only that I disagree with his message; I hate his disrespectful and dismissive tone. Where is his credibility? Hopefully has background is in psychology and media...
