Well after trying crysis on my computer with the recommeneded specs on high :P I decided to reduce them to medium and played the first level. The game ran decently with about 25-35fps. :( I'm not too suprised though and it looks as if I'll have to go for the Nvidia GTX 460 as soon as possible, otherwise all my other great parts are going to waste, especially my CPU :) Just one more question, which might be my last. With my Acer Aspire M5910, will I have to upgrade the motherboard or PSU to upgrade my graphics card to a GTX 460? If so do you think it would void my warranty simply replacing my video card with another?

Yea I went around asking some stores and the good guys happened to have an Acer Aspire M5910 which had the same i7 860 processor, 8gb ram, 2.5 TB hard drive and a good video card from the get go, and they had good interest free options. It's been great so far and very happy with it, its also whisper quiet and very fast :)

Here is the specs :P

Intel Core i7 860 @2.8ghz

RAM: 8192MB

Video Card: Nvidia GeForce GT 320 1GB

Hard Drive: 2.5TB

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

I'm going to upgrade the video card to a GTX 460 in the future :P but for now the gt 320 should be good enough. As I'm fine with not gaming at high resolutions. Thanks for everybody's help :)

[QUOTE="DMCartz"]

Cheers guys, :)

I'm going to go with the GTX 460. But there are two options that I've discovered, I can either buy a MSI Nvidia GTX 460 Cyclone 1GB or two EVGA GeForce GTX 460 SuperClocked 768MB and run them in SLI. The MSI I believe is around $325 Australian (I'm in Australia btw). The two EVGA 460's put together is $470. As you might suspect money is a bit of an issue. I've already got a little over $2000 on all the other parts already, which is getting a little high. I suspect that the motherboard is a little over the top ($365 dollars), as it has quad SLI or Crossfire support, when the max i'll use is two. The main reason for the picking it in the beginning was because of it's large amount of features, including some useful cooling features.

Here's the link to the ASUS motherboard http://www.asus.com.au/product.aspx?P_ID=GcRyQQyzUldWVI52&templete=2

One last thing, the power supply I've selected, is that too much or too little? I could save a little money if it's too much, but I still need enough power for two EVGA's or two MSI's, I'd pick up the extra MSI GTX 460 later on.

Thanks for all your help :D

If you're tight on money, just get ONE GPU for now.

You will be able to play every game on high settings.... then if you REALLY need another GPU in the future, they will come down in price...

I was in ur spot about 3 years ago. I got an ASUS mainboard with SLI Ready thinking I would need two GPUs.

I bough a Geforce 8800GTX, and 3 years later is still runs everything on high and no need for another one... (Saved myself about $700)

Yeah i'm just going to buy the one 460 Cyclone for now. If only I can find a store that is able to build custom spec computers and has interest free options, I've got no idea of such a store, anyone know any stores in Australia that do exactly that? I doubt Harvey Norman, Good Guys or JB Hifi which have interest free options can build custom pc's. Sigh...

Are you interested in PhysX goodies and do you plan to get a 3D setup going in the future?

MyopicCanadian

Yeah I do like the extra features that the Nvidia graphics cards have, PhysX and CUDA. So that's why I gave up on the whole ATI 5850 idea. Not sure about 3D gaming though, but in the future I'd go 3D, but not any time soon :P

One other thing, does anyone know any good and common stores that can build pc's for you in Australia, interest free? I've unfortunately been unable to find much information so far about it. Otherwise I'm going to have to save up for quite a while before I can afford this computer :(

Yea sorry about not posting on hardware forum, i was short on time and didn't look properly. I just realised I made another mistake, I meant the GTX 470 not the GTX 460, real sorry about that :( But I'm still thinking about the GTX 460, will it run any game for at least the next six months on high to max settings? The GTX 470 has similar features anyway, and I do like the GTX 470 & GTX 460 due to the extra graphics features such as PhysX and CUDA. The resolutions I game on would usually be close to the native resolution of the monitor, for great quality and smooth gameplay, but that depends on the game. Older games I'd max the resolution to the monitor's native, which would be 1920x1200.

Once again sorry about the mix up. Is there any way I can move this post to the Hardware Discussion Board?

Hi everyone, I'm interested in purchasing a new gaming desktop, I've got most of my specs sorted but cannot decide on the video card. I've took lots of interest in the GTX 470 and the HD 5850, as they are both well priced and are both DirectX 11 cards. Only problem is I cannot decide which one to buy, I've done lots of researching and they both appear to have very similar performance. The main differences that I've noticed is that the 5850 runs quiter, cooler and is able to be highly overclocked. The 470 however runs quite a lot more hotter and uses more power, which isn't a big deal besides the fact that'd im interested in overclocking and eventually purchasing a second GPU. I'm also wondering if the power supply I've selected is enough as I'm going to do some overclocking and I'd like my PSU to be ready for a second GPU. I'll list the specs I've selected so far.:)

Case: Coolermaster HAF932 ATX Full Tower Case

PSU: Xigmatek NRP-MC 750W Power Supply

Motherboard: ASUS P7P55D-E Premium

Processor: Intel Core i7 860 2.8GHz/8MB CACHE/LGA1156

RAM: KINGSTON 4GB (2x 2GB) 1333MHZ DDR3 NON-ECC CL9 DIMM

Hard Drive: Western Digital WD10EARS SATA 1TB 7200RPM (64MB) Hard Disk Drive

Sound Card: Creative PCI Express Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio

Monitor: ASUS VK222H 22"/2MS/5000:1/HDMI/WEBCAM

If there is any other problems let me know :)

Thanks in advance :D
