EA may not have started as a major game publisher company but it is definetely true that they have reached gamers' expectations especially the past 2-3 years. The Sims policy however is quite annoying, they strip a game from most of its features and then release expansion packs like crazy. This is no ultimately bad, everyone needs the money and piracy is been scimming off profits for several years now, but releasing three expansion sets in the past year for Sims 3 is rather irritating for gamers. Not to mention that in Greece PC games are overpriced, it is irrational for an expansion set to cost 50 Euros (68US$) when released 1-2 months later compared to the rest of Europe. This indicates that EA has been neglecting the end-user marketing-wise, and hence indirectlypromoting piracy. I have never had a problem with an EA game on my PC, or I cannot remember of a problem that persisted for two long and was not solved within a month, so EA has always been PC-friendly performance-wise to me.
