I've known a few people that are addicted to videogames. But I have to call foul against problematic videogame play and letting go of other parts of one's life. The most addicted person I know, (a man that can be satisfied to put in Guilty Gear X2 on the hardest most digusting difficulty and then take out the least intuitive char) can be happy to play hard ass games for hours on end without any kind of break, non-stop for 6-10 hours in one go . . . which becomes even MORE problemnatic when he is using a fighting game I'm good at for 8 horus straight . . . in single player mode . . . at my house . . . but it goes deeper than that. He absorbs himself into the game, he focuses on nothing but GG, joining countless forums to argue over character stats, reading fanfiction and webcomics about it, throwing all his other games to the side in favor of the one game, and still manages straight As in college. But at the same time, he then after spending 10 hours failing matches against the "final" mission in GG, which puts the stakes so high against you the best way to win is to not play, he goes to his books to study, and spends another 10 hours into the night studying, just passes himself out of society for school and games, even if he calls up his friends he only talks about 3 things, anime (which he's obsessed with) games (the one game he's devoted his life to right now) and what makes him angry. The videogames are what he LIVES for . . . it's almost frightening . . . And I used to think I was addicted because if I am having a good session I can do an RPG for 6-10 hours in a day. But I'll still put it down in favor of friends or movies or such. This man refused to go out with a girl because he was "this close" to beating a mission in a GROSSLY hard action game . . . he refused SEX for a game he couldn't get past the level he was on . . .
