The anime industry is picking up. And the reason it used to bleed money is because of the price. Used to, two or three 22 minute episodes of a show could be like 20 dollars. Where you could buy a twenty-four episode season of any other show for like sixty bucks. Now that prices are on par with other tv shows, more people are now buying anime. Also, used to if you wanted to see anime you could either pirate or buy the overpriced DVD's. Now there is stuff like Netflix and Hulu. Keep in mind, those prices are from years ago. Now both anime and TV shows have gotten much cheaper.
Yeah Tom McShea is kind of an idiot. Of course it's not realistic combat, it's a video game! I think the story matters more for realism than combat. Show the emotional turmoil soldiers go through in an engaging story. Show them dealing with the hardship of dealing with things like being away from family, watching your buddies die, having to kill other human beings. Yeah, give me my regenerating health and stuff, but give a story that resonates like great war movies. Arguing game mechanics makes it unrealistic is just pointless.
I almost jumped up and down in happiness when Squall saved Rinoa on the Ragnarok and they are going back home. I teared up as Cloud laid Aeries's body down in the water. Felt complete shock when I learned my KOTOR character was Darth Revan. Hell, the story in KOTOR was better and told more effectively than Star Wars Episodes 1-3 combined. Stephen King says that a story is about emotional payoff. And I have had lots of emotional pay off with many games that I have played. People can say games aren't a storytelling medium all they want, but I will always remember some of the great stories I had the pleasure of experiencing through video games.
