I don't really look at user reviews for the bigger "blockbuster" titles anymore because it's obviously become skewed data.

-CoD IS a good franchise. It's not selling a lot of games because people like to throw 60$ down just because, it's selling because it has customers. The series lacks innovation, this much is terribly true. But anyone that can find a glaring fault other than "it's the same damn game over and over!" is welcome to state them. And I'll show you dozens of otehr shooters with the same faults and many more in addition. That said, I can't play this series anymore, I just can't--- but I can see why people do.

- Metacritic scores (and the containing critic reviews) DO matter, more so than user reviews. There was once a time when user reviews were the golden standard, one's best source of good solid opinions. That is no longer true. Developers, publishers, and investors don't look at them because they see millions of unit sales and abysmal user scores and think "these sobs are trolls!"... and they're not too far off. Not saying all user reviews are off, I've seen some for Diablo III that make EXCELLENT points, but then I read a couple hundred complaining about ME3's ending and I facepalm.

- Dont' get the Diablo III hate, honestly. After the initial 2 days of crappy server etc., the game is smooth as can be. It IS the best hack & slash out right now, so what are people comparing it to when they say it sucks? If you say Torchlight, your credibility is shot; if you say Titan Quest I wholly agree. Titan Quest, however, is no longer supported and few even know it exists. I'll take the instant grouping ques in D3 any day.

Or... is there some other gauge of success other than sales and critical reception that I don't know about? This mystery platinum standard of user wants and needs? Meh. I miss the good old days when people could just have fun playing games instead of complaining about every little thing that bothers them.

Blizzard failures in the past 3-4 years:

WoW: Wrath of the Lich King- 91% Metacritic. 4 million units sold.

WoW: Cataclysm- 90% Metacritic. 3 million units sold.

Starcraft 2- 93% Metacritic. 3.5 million units sold.

Diablo III- 88% Metacritic score. 7 million+ units sold.

Don't think digital sales are included in these numbers, and Korean sales are "different" (with Koreans being one of Blizzard's main customers).

So what this all adds up to is... That you're an idiot.

I really do hope this turns out to be a good title. That said, this is definitely one of those games I wait to get until some reviews are out.

@zinoalex The first Torchlight wasn't even that great-- never got why people feel Torchlight 2 is worth hyping. Now Grim Dawn (from the Titan Quest people) should be watched.

@ruudparklimy I've yet to run into a bug. And I've played a lot. The server issues also stopped after day 2. So...
