If the money in question is going 100% toward the production of the item in question (and in this case it is) then it is Fair Use. As long you don't use any of the money to pay for something unrelated to the project then you are still allowed to accept donations.

What portion of this series is being sold? I have been with this project from the beginning and not once have they mentioned selling anything to do with the project that they haven't created themselves.

It is exactly why Dragonball Z Abridged, Yugioh Abridged, Fairy Tail Abridged and all the other abridged anime series exist and are allowed to continue. The copyright owners constantly issue take-down requests to Youtube only because they know that if they ever sued the abridgers and the abridgers banded together and pooled their money fought the copyright holders in court the abridgers would win on the basis of "fair use".

@lamerwaffle @GOGOHeadray @AshrakAiemain They aren't selling this though. None of the money from the kickstarter would go into these guys' pockets. It would all go to making the webseries. Someone else posted a comment here and I would like to quote them. They said this is the equivalent of a group of friends pooling their money to make this happen. It is equivalent because if this group had been made up of super rich kids and they just pooled their own money then nobody would have said anything about it. The only difference here is that the pool is larger and each person is giving less. The two scenarios end up with the exact same result and should both be treated the same.

@unikat First of all, I have mentioned this before (probably not here though) but that trailer was a proof-of-concept trailer. That means that the actual web series would look nothing like it and would in fact look a great deal better.

Second of all, you do remember Shin Bahamut was in Advent Children, correct? These people are diehard fans. They wouldn't have started this otherwise. This means that the webseries would look a thousand times better than Advent Children and tell the story pretty much exactly as it is presented in the game.

Third of all, Square-Enix didn't remake FF7 because they are lazy and don't give two flips about their fans. I mean, honestly, how can you believe anything they say with the fact that they have continued the FF XIII series in spite of the protesting of the fans? If you can't see that Square-Enix doesn't care about the fans after that then you are too much of a blind fanboy for me to help you.

What this article tells me is that recording on XBox One will suck for RPG's because you can only record the gameplay and not the cinematics.
