@chikken21 I think people are just realizing that pixels have become less of a retro thing, and more of a stylized art thing, which is good, because pixels ARE stylish when used right. =)
the same reason they made the Battleship video game. Because they want your money and they're willing to sucker in the naive crowd who don't know better to do it.
what I would do, is rather than place blocks willy nilly to trap the player, I would help them out on the first playthrough, and then once they know the lay of the land, I lay the smackdown on them, creating an artificial "Hard Mode"!

"Mindlessly flailing spells until you're arms get tired" Well... yeah... wouldn't YOU get tired after casting all those spells? Even in real life???
"The hit detection is off, ensuring you get hit, even after dodging an attack" Even though we clearly see in more than one occasion that you had no problem dodging attacks.
