wow. you should have said this earlier! Duh! Windows Vista.frost_mourne13
Lol to put this in politer terms, :) , Windows Vista has a much higher overhead than XP, that is to say it takes up way more resources, so your bare minimum amount of ram (on XP) is sub-minimum amount on Vista hence the huge drop in performance!
So let me see if I got it.
1. Re-install windows on the new HDD.
2. Install the old HDD (along with new) into the new computer
3. Simply copy the files over to the new HDD
Now, I've never worked with 2 harddrives at once, is the second one easy to install?

If windows is installed on the new HDD already you dont need to reinstall it.
What you need to do then is:
1. Set the new HDD to master with the jumper (you should see 10 pins arranged in a 5x2 row near to the power cable and IDE/SATA cable, there should be a legend on the HDD itself showing you what pins need to be connected for the drive to be picked up as the master).
2. Set the old HDD to slave and connect IDE/SATA and power connector.
3.Boot PC it should pick up both drives but should boot off the new drive, when you enter windows you should be able to see the second drive in my computer at which point you should be able to copy what you want off there!
Good Luck,

[QUOTE="Blademaestor"]Starting with 6.06, they merged the Live and Install CDs, so you can install from any of the CDs they offer. There's always the chance that the disc didn't burn correctly. Do you get any sort of error message when you try to boot the CD?Hi there, I've switched from Ubuntu to PCLinuxOS but will do my best to help, had a quick look at the site, they have changed the download format. I think what you have is the "Live" version of the CD i.e. it just shows you what ubuntu has to offer without installing anything on the system.
What are you looking to do, are you looking to install ubuntu onto your HDD?

Strange I'm sure I downloaded the alternate install ISO for both 6.06 and 6.10 but if they are merging it so much the better! Go for a reburn if there are error messages on booting
To answer the other question, no it has nothing to do with windows, it is an alternative to windows with a completely different structure - i.e. linux.
You might also consider that DX10 is Vista exclusive, so if you have Vista you might as well get a DX10 card, if not and aren't planning on upgrading then DX9 will suffice. (However if you think you will get Vista at some point you could future proof yourself to an extent by getting a DX10 card)
The choice, as always, is yours!
Had a similar problem at one point, think it was due to codec conflicts rather than missing codecs.
If you are happy with your player and just want a comprehensive codec pack, get the combined community codec pack, (after uninstalling ALL the codecs on your system first) if you want a stand alone player that will play more or less anything, get VLC player it runs off its own codecs so needs no external codec packs.
Good Luck!
