@Jackc8 please put @ front of the name so i know i am replied to. and i am not a GameSpot staff FYI. As told earlier and by other people here, everything can be misused,this hack/crack is not an exception. Some may use it to cheat online,but that shows the weak implementation of Sony for online gaming,they made a strong fortified gate which was their supposed unbreakable/unhackable security for PS3 and didn't think about the other security problems,now that the catapult destroyed the gate the town is defenseless! Blame Sony for online cheaters and after all that problem is mostly solved now! And when i bought my PS3 it is mine,if there is a workaround which enables the PS3 to become a PC,i really appreciate it(it was promised after all by OtherOS which Sony removed it like a bastard!),Sony has no right whatsoever to it! I can do whatever i wish to my console and enjoying its capabilities,PS3 has a very powerful CPU & GPU it can be used in many many ways! If Sony just wants to win a bit of lost reputation back,they should drop the case against Hotz and bring back the OtherOS feature,after all they removed it to stop the hack of the console which they failed apparently,so i guess they can bring it back now.And give us the capabilities they promised like PS2 emulation!
@SonicBlaze425 very well said,i would really like to run PC applications on my PS3,maybe a PS2 emulator,or other homebrew stuff,its up to the person as to how he uses his own console.
@EKGProd If by contracts you mean ToS(Terms of Service) then i should tell you it doesn't mean anything,as the name implies it is an agreement in which the company gives you services according to conditions you have accepted in this case it is PSN,they can ban you if of the PSN if they found out you have tampered with the system in order to cheat online for example.But they have absolutely no right whatsovere of what you do with your console when you buy them,companies can not dictate you anything!and ToS doesn't weigh an atom of importance here!
Go Go Hotz! You have done nothing wrong! And to the people who say Sony needs game sales to compensate the console loss,to inform you that the days for console loss is over for PS3,its quite some time they are making money of it,and Microsoft had the same problem with x360 but they didn't decide to go after the hackers,just witness the difference! And after all it is not an argument against Hotz. By the way i think Ps3 hacking will help its sale,many people who wouldn't buy a PS3 cause they couldn't afford the games price now will buy it,specially in poorer countries.They lose money on game sales they make money on console sales!
We support you Hotz! We boycott you Sony! Every one who wants to show his anger towards Sony should stop buying any of their products in the future,like TV and electronic goods,by the way Samsung is doing much much better than you Sony!
