Okay... using the ATI total uninstalller thing from the link has gotten rid of it happening at stock clocks, so thanks a lot for that!!!! :D

Now, ...I tried OCing to the CCC max of 790/1100 and theoretically I should reach that easily without voltge mods? Well, I cant. I max it then apply & exit the CCC, run 3DMark06 and select demo and then the display shows, but artifacts start popping up and about 20 seconds in the screen briefly freezes then switches to the "No Signal" messege(like when the screen isnt plugged in) and then just black screen forever.

I am guessing its too much of an OC? But should I be able to hit that as-is?

Whitsel
its not about voltage main worry is heat some cards just dont overclock well, use ati tool to check for artifacts using the scanner it has when overclocking increase in small steps

Thanks for the reply. I've overclocked to GPU Clock 700, and Memory Clock 1030. Didn't dare going further as I started having the 'flimmering' overheating hints in games. But my Fan Speed is at 0%. Should I increase it?Vaultn00b
use atitool do not use the driver that it tries to install tho once its running click on artifact scanner and scan for an hour if you receivve no crashes or no errors display and you do not see any white dots appearing then you should be fine! keep temps under 80!

its an overclock issue most likely do nto overclock anymore it underclocks itself while idle btw and also how high have you been overclocking ther eis a possibility you may have damaged it by not testing for artifacts after overclocking how long have you had the 4870 it may have been damagaed on arrival in other words send it back if thats the case

Im just waiting for more heatsinks to come out for lga1366 before i buy. I doubt that they will do a new die change until maybe next year and if they do it earlier then they will wait until the current stock runs low before putting out the newer better chips.Kurushio
best advice right there i would wait anyway coz there so damm expensive

[QUOTE="04dcarraher"][QUOTE="Beaglesniffer"] His mobo cant handle ethier of those cpus he wanted.

[QUOTE="Beaglesniffer"]make sure you can also use newer ram and more of it if you want compatibility and CBA to overclock then i would go with the 3.1ghz dual core it also uses less power the only diffrence between the two is the price and the black edition has a small L3 cache which wont make noticeable difference04dcarraher

Okay, thank you all for the answers. I have another question as well, could it be that I'm using bad settnings in the CCC? What 3D settnings would be optimal for best performance in games?Vaultn00b
no leave all CCC settings default as they are, changing stuff will only increase image quality and decrease performance your left 4 dead anf crysis are bad!!!! i get 150FPS on L4D pretty much most of the time and it never dips below 70 in an extreme horde of zombies and guts your ram is better than mine and you have an extra 512mb of VRAM over me too, i guess i do have 2 extra cores but you have a higher clock so it shouldnt make a massive difference one thing i have done is overclocked my card which i do not joke alsmot doubles PFS in far cry 2 you could try overclocking the GPU atm i am running mine at 700 core and 1050mhz, i did have a better cooler attached, along with the best thermal paste around as well as the fan spinning at its max RPM which is only aroudn 2200 and the power input has a cooler too as well as the VRAM chips :) if your cooler is the default 1 slot cooler then up the fan speed and add a bit more to the core clock only say take it up to 650mhz it might help although i would not go further with default cooler

vistas fine. idk what everyones issue is ive been happy with itag3ntz3rox0x
me too actually i would never go back to XP just because of the interface and some useful features in vista (no not aero)
