Personally, I found FFTA2 to be a little harder than FFTA (on hard), and a lot more interesting. Still a far shot off from the original, but there are some good challenges in this game, just a little less customization than I would have liked (limitations probably due to the system and by no fault of the designer). As far as SRPGs, there are a couple better ones on the market. My recommendation is to get the game, but definitely play it on hard if you are familiar with the older games. Kind of short too.
If he's six and being supervised, I doubt it'll be a problem. Not using the headset is a good idea because not only does it prevent him from doing/saying anything that would be annoying, but then he won't hear any of the language that older gamers tend to use. Like teabag, or jokes about one's mother.
