Is anybody else getting tired of the stereotypical Brooding Hero?
This protagonist can be found scattered throughout almost every genre and franchise out there from Action, Platformers, FPS, RTS and even RPG's (pick any JRPG at random)
I mean, really?
Can't we have just one hero who doesn't need to have his meds refilled before he feels the need to get out of bed and save us all?
Or how about a hero who doesn't sulk after saving the world?
And of course what is the one fundamental similarity that all of these Manic-Depressive-Do-Gooders share?
That's right...Amnesia! (Again pick any JRPG)
No wonder they're Brooding! they don't even know who the hell they are anymore!
Now, I understand that the amnesia-hook affords the gamer an opportunity to learn about the characters from a clean slate POV or to keep vital plot points secret.
But this has been done far too many times!
Plus there have been great games that got around this like KOTOR Sith Lords and Mass Effect in these you didn't need to know anything about the protagonist because all was revealed through creative dialogue choices that allowed you to better construct a bond to the character and to his or her past.

So what are some other greatly overused plots and protagonists?
Heres the one I like best!

"Evil forces decimated my village and murdered my family and now I seek revenge with a zany cast of characters who bolster my enthusiasm and confidence so that I may take revenge upon those who ruined my life...
Which is kinda confusing because I have amnesia and am not really very certain if it was even MY village that was decimated."

Everyone who owns a current-gen system knows the feeling of playing a game and having just pulled off a spectacular feat or deed and a small chime activates and you are awarded with a token for your actions that really isn't worth squat except sheer satisfaction and bragging rights that you deserve virtual applause for being an astute gamer.
But does anyone recall when Content wasn't downloaded?
When you did something amazing within a game you were awarded with Content: New levels, Special costumes, Better weapons, Rare Items, Nude skins
You get the gist!

So what the Hell Happened?!?!

Besides a whole bunch of toadies in suits squeezing us for every penny in DLC!
(Oblivion Horse Armor Anyone?)

Yeah i went through this when someone told me that oblivion sucks, and then i started looking at it from that point of view then i never wanted to play oblivion ever again, but a while ago i started a new character got him to level 42 with like 3 skills at 100 in under 60 hours, right now im still enjoying resident evil 5, and im trying to get into fallout 3, I just never really got into it.

ConkerAndBerri2

Its funny you said that

Because recently I had a hard time finishing up Fable 2 because a good friend of mine kinda opened

my eyes to why he didn't like the game and I subsequently stopped playing for about 2 months

I myself just have a small range of systems that I have collected over the yearsand for about every one of them i have anywhere from twenty to thirty games for each and i always have a problem of maybe I should play this game on this one.

Or like now for instance I have just beaten Fable 2 and want to start a game of Okami but I haven't played Battlefield Bad Company yet.

It's Sick!

Glad to know I'm not the only one!

I just finished my fifth play-through on Mark Ecko's Getting Up
and I love this freakin game!
But it makes me wonder why there seems to be no forthcoming sequel for this brilliant title? Especially now that we have better color palettes and real physics!
I did have my wish granted recently when they rereleased Chronicles of Riddick
a game that would have been fine with just being backwards compatible but having Dark Athena was a definite plus.
But I have looked at my collection of games of the Past Generation and have made a short list of 10 games that could use a sequel or possibly a remake on current systems.

Please Feel Free To Add On!

1. Mark Ecko's Getting Up (of course)

2. Shadow Of The Colossus (this instead of a movie please!)

3. Eternal Darkness

4. Fatal Frame

5. Metal Arms

6. Way Of The Samurai

7. Kessen (without magic!)

8. Beyond Good And Evil (I know...Its coming)

9. Twisted Metal!

10. Indigo Prophecy
