Talk about not pulling punches, but it is kind of hard to argue with. I think one of the main issues with the 3DS is the fact that from almost every angle it is more of a sideways step from the DS rather than a real progression. Looking at the Vita vs the PSP (obviously it's not out yet but we can draw some opinions based on what we know and have seen) Sony look to actively address the main shortcomings of their first portable device. The lack of original software, the missing right analog stick as well as adding new additions such as the multiple touch pad that could be a gateway into getting some iOS developers porting games over to fill that .99c - $2 area people have grown to love with iPhone portable games. As far as this new add-on I believe that Nintendo is positioning themselves into an early redesign, I have to disagree with the article that this is an addon that will fade. I can see this being incorporated into the stock system only a few months down the line.
Im connecting from Kuwait on a 4mb connection and I got to say I'm impressed. I wasn't even expecting it to work at all. Obviously the stream quality I'm getting isn't great and lag over this distance is a major factor (from the feel I'm guess 400-500ms), but if it means I can try a demo instantly I'm on board. PS, This is coming from someone sitting in front of a rig using 2 570GTXs in SLi running 3 monitors in surround gaming at reses of 5760x1080, 12gigs of ram, i7 950 CPU. So I'm not really a stranger to higher end PC settings. Basically for me, it won't make me buy any games on the service but I'm really impressed with the technology that goes into making this possible.
What I find extremely funny about this whole situation is that Sony were the ones that prompted hackers to start trying their luck at cracking the machine when they removed Linux support. Without that happening no one cared about hacking the PS3, it's not like these guys earn money out of it. In retrospect I would have love to be at the meeting where the suit with no technical knowledge said "Yeah, let’s get rid of Linux support. It's not like anyone will care."
Tebbit Posted Nov 27, 2008 2:35 pm GMT +3 Why would they not run the PS3 at 1080p? It makes 720p games look sharper, I find. Not all PS3 games can run at 1080P. But to level that comment out, NO 360 game can truley run at 1080P. The 360 can run any game at that res because it using a scaler chip to pull the picture up to 1080p, this chip was activated post PS3 launch as a hidden Ace up the M$ sleeve. The activation of this also killed my first 360 :( . Bascially all games run on the 360 are rendered at 720p then scaled to fit the desired res, where as the PS3 renders at the same res it outputs. At least that is what I gather from tech articles.
