Getting a new card really depends on the games you want to play (currently and in the future), what resolution you plan on using, and what details you want to see in a game.

A few months ago I put together a pc for my brother-in-law, and at that time, the best option for their budget was an ati 4870. He uses a 17" crt monitor and can play any game out with 4xAA and high details at 1280x1024 resolution.

His computer with those details and resolution actually runs better than my 8800 Ultra card, with no AA but at a custom 1804x1014 resolution - scaled down from 1920x1080. My use of AA depends on the game - some look more jagged than others.

A 4870 isn't enough for Crysis and 4xAA and max even at that low resolution.

Yes, I'm boycotting Alan Wake, Splinter Cell, GT5, and Duke Nukem.

In the past, I boycotted Zelda :TP, Super Paper Mario, and MGS4. That's pretty much what I try to do, if a game delay's, I boycott it.
